The Principal Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing business-critical projects for Madison Site Operations and Quality Teams, as well as serving as the Project Manager for critical project initiatives as requested by the Strategic Product Lead (SPL). This position has responsibility for facilitating and managing cross-functional execution of project(s) aligning people, processes and systems to maximize impact of the respective initiatives. Projects managed by this individual will represent critical projects for the site or major initiatives for the business to ensure supply-chain continuity, provide foundational support for efficient and effective operations, and support product indication expansion. This includes coordination of activities of cross-functional teams in multiple geographic locations as well as diverse outside vendors. It is critical to the success of this role to develop an objective point of view on the business situation, assess the business risks, outline potential solutions, and carefully craft ambitious yet reasonable implementation plans that can be tracked, measured, and meet business requirements.
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of assigned programs or projects at site or brand level
Build, manage and motivate cross-functional program/project teams
Plan, schedule and control activities to meet on-time, on-budget delivery of project/program objectives
Manage program/project reviews and reporting requirements
Provide direct leadership, coaching and mentorship for team members to ensure compliance with the project delivery process
Work with cross-functional departmental teams/representatives to assess project risks, define project scope and budget, and develop and implement the project schedule and plan.
Successfully operate under sensitive or confidential circumstances supporting projects with high impact to the business
Provide SME knowledge for entire end to end value chain to support key decisions: inclusive of sourcing, planning, operations/quality management
Interact with external vendors and/or third parties, as necessary, to support the needs of the project.
Maintain an objective and unbiased position in guiding projects with perspective to the needs of the business.
Education / Experience / Skills:
BS/BA in physical science or technical field (such as chemistry, engineering, biology, mathematics)
Minimum 10 years project management experience with focus in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
Proficiency in MS Project and/or Smartsheet and other project management tools is required.
Certification as a Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute (PMI) preferred.
Competencies:
A strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, with experience in biologics preferred
Extensive experience leading cross functional, complex projects or programs and knowledge of R&D, manufacturing, materials management, procurement, supply chain, quality and regulatory
Must be capable of applying a broad range of related disciplines such as business requirements analysis, project planning, scheduling, cost control, and economic analysis to projects/programs.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Proven time management skills, especially with calendar management and goal setting
Competent working in MS Office (Power Point, Word, Excel, Project, Visio , etc.)
Knowledgeable of governmental requirements – FDA, cGMP, EPA, OSHA, Etc.

The role of the Principal Project Manager is a site-level position that is part of the Madison Site Leadership Team reporting directly to the Site Director. The primary responsibility for this role is in support of Madison site operations in the planning, coordinating and execution of business-critical projects. Role may also support quality projects as determined by leadership. The secondary responsibility of this role is in support of the Strategic Project Lead, as needed. This position will interface daily with other site leadership members including Quality, Engineering, Facilities & Equipment, Supply Chain/Materials Management and Manufacturing and will spend ~33% time interacting with above-site or non-site based colleagues which may include senior leadership teams or executives and/or external parties.
The role of the Principal Project Manager is a dynamic position which requires cross-functional coordination between individuals. Work can be split between plant-based operations and meetings, presentation preparation, and working off-site. Most work will be performed in an office setting with minimal travel expected.
