The job

We are seeking a Principal Product Specialist to join the AVEVA Unified Supply Chain (USC) Schedule R&D team.

This is a hands-on role for someone with deep Oil & Gas supply chain expertise, who thrives on using technology to solve real-world challenges, enjoys close collaboration with customers and is passionate about creating the next generation of scheduling products.

In this role, you will work as part of a product development team and engage directly with customers to ensure the Scheduling product addresses user problems and customer needs.

Most customer interactions are conducted online. Occasional travel (4–8 times per year) may be required for discovery workshops and customer visits.

Key responsibilities

Customer Advocacy & Domain Expertise

  • Represent customer challenges and user perspective to R&D members, embedding domain expertise in development work utilising the jobs-to-be-done framework
  • Maintain a deep understanding of customer needs, workflows and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in User Group Meetings and industry forums, showcasing product direction and helping build trusted customer relationships.
  • Understand implementation, adoption and development patterns of operational software, including competitive landscape awareness.
  • Build expertise in the CONNECT platform and its services in relation to scheduling.

Product Team Membership

  • Foster a collaborative, positive team environment that encourages shared ownership and the empowerment of the team to solve business problems.
  • Support prioritisation of development work, providing updates on customer engagements and ongoing work.
  • Contribute to product design workshops and scoping sessions; capture and document requirements and goals, prototype and design user workflows for the next generation Scheduling solution.
  • Collaborate with product leadership to influence AVEVA Scheduling roadmap decisions.
  • Propose workflow and experience improvements, using proof-of-concepts and prototypes.
  • Define measurable success indicators, and lead the rapid iteration of design/implementation with the product team based upon user feedback.
  • Monitor emerging technologies within AVEVA and third-party tools relevant to scheduling of supply chains.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead and document outcomes from discovery sessions with customers, R&D, and internal experts.
  • Deliver compelling customer demos involving multiple digital products.
  • Support customer onboarding and feedback gathering.
  • Support Sales, Pre-Sales, Project and Product Management by contributing to request for information/request for proposal (RFIs/RFPs).
  • Share knowledge internally to upskill colleagues and stakeholders and on-board new team members.

Essential requirements

  • Extensive hands-on experience in the Oil & Gas supply chain, with a focus on customer jobs-to-be-done. Understanding of plant’s ERP, IT and OT systems, and plant-level collaboration practices.
  • Proficiency with simulation, scheduling and digital tools used in downstream operations, and workflow practices.
  • Proven experience in guiding R&D teams to deliver on product and customer goals, ideally in an agile product development environment.
  • Curiosity and adaptability to explore evolving industry trends, with the agility to adjust focus and prioritise as the market changes.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders and communicate across technical and business contexts.
  • Excellent presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desired skills and competencies

  • Familiarity with AVEVA’s Unified Supply Chain.
  • Familiarity with industrial data platforms, including CONNECT.

Hybrid working
