About the Team
You will help manage product for Workday's observability platform, covering the full data lifecycle — collection, processing, querying, and visualisation. Working closely with platform engineers and development teams, you'll translate complex operational needs into a clear product roadmap that strengthens Workday's ability to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise its global SaaS infrastructure. This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering and operational reliability, directly supporting Workday's mission to deliver dependable, high-performance services to the world's largest organisations.
About the Role
- Partner with engineering, SRE, and operations teams across Workday to deeply understand their observability needs — what they must monitor, how they troubleshoot, and where visibility gaps slow them down.
- Drive the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for the observability platform, spanning data collection, processing, querying, and visualisation capabilities.
- Shape solution design for each release, balancing user requirements, technical architecture, and the operational reliability demands of a global SaaS platform.
- Work hand-in-hand with platform engineering teams through design, development, testing, and release to ensure quality delivery on time and at scale.
- Coordinate and align delivery across multiple scrum teams building in a complex, distributed systems environment.
- Define high-impact OKRs that focus the team on outcomes — faster incident response, deeper system visibility, and reduced operational toil.
- Champion adoption of observability tooling across Workday's development organisation, driving education, onboarding, and feedback loops that accelerate platform uptake.
- Represent the observability platform to Workday's engineering leadership and broader technical community, building conviction in the platform's direction and value.
- Lead technical discussions with senior engineers, architects, and platform stakeholders to align priorities and resolve cross-cutting design decisions.
About You
Basic Qualifications:
- 12+ years of experience in product management, defining and delivering SaaS or cloud-based infrastructure, platform, or developer tooling products at scale.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; Master's degree or equivalent practical experience preferred.
Other Qualifications:
- Deep familiarity with observability concepts — metrics, logs, traces, alerting, and SLOs — and how engineering teams use them to operate reliable systems at scale.
- Experience owning products in the data pipeline space: collection, processing, storage, querying, or visualisation of high-volume operational data.
- Proven ability to influence engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders without authority, driving alignment on platform strategy and investment priorities across a large engineering organisation.
- Strong track record of leading cross-team collaboration across platform engineering, SRE, infrastructure, and application development teams to deliver complex, distributed systems initiatives.
- Deep customer empathy for internal developer and operator personas — you actively seek out pain points through direct engagement, support data, and usage analytics, and translate them into product strategy.
- Skilled at using quantitative data — adoption metrics, query performance, system health indicators, cost analysis — to drive prioritisation, measure impact, and make defensible trade-off decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound product decisions that balance developer experience, technical feasibility, operational reliability, and long-term architectural direction.
- Strong understanding of the observability and monitoring landscape — open-source ecosystems (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Elasticsearch), commercial platforms, and industry trends shaping how organisations instrument and monitor cloud-scale systems.
- Experience defining and executing research strategies — user interviews, dogfooding programmes, internal surveys, usage analysis — to uncover unmet needs and validate product direction.
- Effective communicator who can represent platform strategy to senior engineering leadership, build conviction across teams, and manage expectations with transparency and clarity.
- Strategic thinker who connects platform capabilities to business outcomes — linking observability investments to incident reduction, developer productivity, and operational excellence.
Our Approach to Flexible Work
With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.
At Workday, we are committed to providing an accessible and inclusive hiring experience where all candidates can fully demonstrate their skills. If you require assistance or an accommodation at any point, please email accommodations@workday.com.
