Principal Product Engineer - Exploratory 3D Analysis

Remote Eligible, US Full Time

Overview

Viewing, exploring and filtering geographic content is a key process for gaining insights into our world. We’re looking for someone passionate about interactive exploration of GIS data in multiple dimensions who can lead projects that deliver software that helps our users gather knowledge and understanding from their content.

As a senior member of the Map Exploration Team within the ArcGIS Pro software development team, you’ll drive the design, testing, and maintenance of innovative new tools and capabilities that allow users to filter and explore their GIS data. This work includes enhancements to existing capabilities – such as navigation, selection, and animation – as well as the investigation and research of future capabilities, such as multiple types of simulation. You’ll be actively involved in ensuring the usability, quality, and functionality of the software supports realistic workflows and use-cases.

You will also support the technical growth of other staff members, ensure strong knowledge transfer, and support the design and testing of other projects within the team. Where applicable, you will collaborate with other teams for capabilities that are needed across the ArcGIS platform, including the proper use of standardized data formats and methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Work with users and industry experts to identify primary use-cases and workflows
  • Innovate the development of exploratory tools for GIS data (tabular, 2D, 3D, time)
  • Develop and implement test cases and validate bug fixes
  • Contribute to the maintenance, monitoring, and growth of the automated test suite
  • Troubleshoot production issues in current and past software versions
  • Work with other teams to expose data exploration capabilities across the ArcGIS Platform, including the online, runtime, and mobile platforms
  • Share and distribute your workflows and projects in samples, tutorials, blog articles, videos, and help documentation

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience using an application development language (such as C++, Java, or C#)
  • 8+ years of experience with software development processes
  • Proven ability to lead, collaborate on, and deliver complex software capabilities 
  • Strong analytical problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor’s in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field level

Recommended Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of computer graphics APIs such as DirectX and OpenGL
  • Extensive experience with simulation and 3D visualization techniques
  • Working knowledge of web GIS technologies such as JSON, REST, and JavaScript
  • Strong knowledge of 3D data formats
  • Familiarity with Esri ArcGIS platform technologies
  • Knowledge of UI/UX design techniques
  • Master’s in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field

Compensation decisions and the base range for this role take into account many factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

$116,480$187,200 USD
