Who we are

At OpenUp, our mission is to make mental well-being accessible to everyone. Following a ‘high tech & high touch’ approach, we support companies, their employees, and their families with proactive and practical mental health services. Through our digital platform, clients can access 1:1 check-ins, online courses, articles, videos, group sessions, mindfulness practices, and a team of committed mental well-being experts. As we believe that mental and physical well-being are deeply connected, we have also added Lifestyle Experts to our offering, focusing on nutrition, exercise, and sleep. We offer a truly holistic approach that helps people take ownership of their health. We’re proud to work with forward-thinking organizations and are committed to raising the bar on accessible care.

OpenUp was ranked in the Top 3 on LinkedIn’s Top Startups list for 2023, 2024 & 2025 and is continuously growing. We are expanding our international teams and we are searching for like-minded talent. We are already serving 1500+ companies (e.g. Rituals, Deloitte, Decathlon, KPMG, and McDonalds), through which 500K+ employees have access to our product

Your role

As Principal Product Designer, you are the most senior individual contributor in Design, responsible for shaping and improving OpenUp’s end-to-end product experience across web and mobile. You will own the quality and coherence of our customer and user journeys, from first touch to long-term engagement, across both employee experiences and HR/admin surfaces.

You will mentor and coach Senior and mid level  Designers within OpenUp, as well as Content Managers on topics of media and taste

This role also has a clear growth path toward Head of Design as we expand and elevate our copy, tone of voice, brand and evolve content formats. That future scope sits at the intersection of product, content, and “taste.”

What you’ll work on

You’ll lead design across key journeys and systems, such as:

  • Onboarding, activation, and navigation
  • Booking and participation flows (1:1 sessions, group sessions)
  • Check-ins and progress experiences
  • Content discovery and completion (courses, videos, articles)
  • HR/admin dashboards and reporting (“so what”, clarity, actionability)
  • Design systems and reusable patterns that raise quality and speed up delivery

Responsibilities

  • Elevate OpenUp’s end-to-end product experience across key journeys (onboarding, booking, check-ins, content, progress) on web + mobile
  • Co-create product and design vision with Product and Leadership, translating company strategy into a coherent experience direction and advocating for user needs in roadmap decisions
  • Improve information architecture and navigation so the platform feels coherent, calm, and easy to use
  • Design and ship high-craft interaction/UI work, from concept to production, with clear specs and strong engineering collaboration
  • Use rapid prototyping (including AI-enabled prototyping) to explore solutions quickly and validate with users and data
  • Improve how users discover, choose, and complete content,so it feels like guidance, not a content warehouse
  • Help shape the content experience and content roadmap
  • Strengthen HR/admin experiences (dashboards, reporting, “so what” clarity) to make insights actionable
  • Build leverage through reusable patterns and design-system contributions that increase quality and delivery speed
  • Set the quality bar for UX writing, empty/error states, accessibility, and consistency across journeys
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Content, and Clinical Experts to ensure trust, safety, and brand coherence in a wellbeing context
  • Partner with engineering in an AI-assisted development environment (design-to-code acceleration, component reuse, tighter iteration loops)

What success looks like (12 months)

  • Journeys are measurably better (higher activation, fewer drop-offs, improved booking conversion, fewer support tickets)
  • Content engagement improves with higher quality and higher user value
  • HR/admin experiences are more actionable and HR is treated as a value user
  • The product feels consistently trustworthy, calm, and high-quality across web + mobile
  • Design-to-delivery cycles shorten without quality loss because AI-enabled prototyping and AI-assisted development are working

About you

You’re a senior / lead level designer who can drive platform-wide impact without needing a management title. You bring strong craft, systems thinking, and sharp product judgment.

Required experience & skills

  • 8+ years in product design (or equivalent experience), with evidence of shipped work and measurable impact
  • Excellent interaction design and information architecture skills (you simplify complexity)
  • Experience designing across web and mobile
  • Strong collaboration with product and engineering teams; comfortable with constraints and trade-offs
  • Strong communication: you align stakeholders with clear narratives and prototypes
  • Comfort working in high-trust contexts where clarity, safety, and dignity matter
  • Proficiency in Figma and AI Prototyping tools
  • Strong visual “taste” and experience collaborating closely with Brand

Strongly preferred

  • Experience designing content/media-driven experiences (discovery → consumption → retention)
  • Hands-on experience with AI-enabled prototyping and/or AI-assisted development workflows (e.g., rapid concept iteration, design-to-code acceleration, using LLMs responsibly to explore UX/UI options)
  • Experience in B2B2C environments (HR buyer + employee user)
  • Experience improving dashboards and analytics surfaces (clarity and “so what”)
  • Experience shipping in international, multi-language products

Nice-to-have
