Program Summary 

The KBR Metrology team supports manufacturing, engineering & test, repair & overhaul, and aftermarket service centers globally in support of Aerospace & Defense, Automotive, Medical, Safety, Semiconductor and other industries.  Our support includes services such as complete management of embedded metrology systems, calibration and repair, test & inspection, metrology engineering, preventive maintenance, NADCAP special process support, and AMS2750 Heat Treat pyrometry services and more.  Our teams are located across the globe working in KBR and customer embedded laboratories as well as performing onsite visits with our field service operations and mobile laboratory platforms.  Our teams work to ensure our customer systems are maintained to high standards through calibration, preventative maintenance, automation and programming, calibration recall system management, and audit support.  We ensure great customer experience by tracking and providing performance and delivery metrics through digital dashboards, as well as routine customer service surveys and direct customer meetings.

Job Summary 

Principal Metrology Technician is responsible for performing advanced calibrations, tests and/or inspections in-lab or on-site using accredited standards, management and scheduling of day-to-day escalations and priority requests, maintaining traceability and calibration of laboratory capabilities and standards.  The position requires subject matter expert level knowledge and fluency in calibration, test, and/or inspection procedures and processes, and hands-on experience with setting up manual and automated advanced test equipment calibration systems.  This position also requires the ability to review, validate, create, and/or modify calibration, test, and/or inspection procedures. Principal Metrology Technician will provide support, training and mentoring to other technicians.  This role will report to the lab manager.

Roles and Responsibilities   

  • Perform calibration and certification of advanced dimensional measuring and test equipment, blueprint-controlled fixtures and hardware according to technical specifications, ensuring traceability to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

  • Calibrate and repair equipment such as Blue print controlled hardware and fixtures, dimensional tooling, gaging and hand tools.

  • Calibrate dimensional standards used in calibrations and maintain equipment to established performance standards.

  • Record maintenance activities in CMS, generate reports on results of tests, conditions of equipment and/or systems, repairs, and preventive maintenance performed, and prepare necessary documentation as required by customer and regulatory requirements.

  • Utilize common laboratory measuring, calibrating, and test equipment.

  • Validate, modify and create calibration procedures from specifications and requirements.

  • Interpret and create uncertainty budget in accordance with ISO 17025:2017

  • Complete all other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma with 10+ years of experience in the field, OR associate’s degree in engineering technology or a relevant field with 6 years of experience.

  • Subject Matter Expert level working knowledge of Dimensional calibrations, and GD&T

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software, including Excel.

  • Ability to interpret, validate, modify, and create measurement uncertainty budgets in accordance with ISO 17025:2107

Preferred Qualifications

  • IndySoft, Fluke Met/Team, Fluke Met/Track and Met/Cal experience a plus+.

  • Proficient using Microsoft technology, including Excel

  • Ability to perform manual Layout calibration on a surface plate

  • CMM operations and Programming experience
