The Principal Mechanical/Aerospace/Materials Engineer will work initially in the Engines and MEMS Sensors design team developing highly reliable products which meet customer specified requirements/expectations at the lowest competitive cost. The engineer will be a highly motivated self-starter who will be capable of providing technical leadership to complex, multi-discipline projects, providing mentoring to other engineers, and driving innovation. The engineer will be expected to represent the organization as prime customer contact on existing products and new designs, including making presentations to customers.

What You Will Do:

  • Technical lead for bids and proposals for new engine sensors.
  • Thoroughly review and understand product specifications and determine design requirements and scope of work.
  • Technical leadership of complex, multi-discipline teams.
  • Develop and review estimates of effort and duration for tasks.
  • Support project cost and schedule development and baselining.
  • Requirements management and convergence planning.
  • Prepare, present, and review stage gate design reviews both internally and externally to customers.
  • Generate and review design concepts in conformance with requirements and ensure that adequate trade studies and analyses are performed to arrive at optimum design configurations.
  • Perform and review tolerance analyses on components and assemblies to ensure proper fit/function.
  • Review drawings and utilize CAD solid modeling techniques to prepare component and assembly models and drawings.
  • Write and review test requests, supporting design verification testing, and coordinating with test department.
  • Specify materials including high temperature, corrosion and oxidation resistant alloys
  • Specify material joining methods and specifications for processes such as welding and brazing.
  • Provide MRB (Material Review Board) support and disposition nonconforming product.
  • Interface with all other functional groups and departments as required in the development of the product design.
  • Use department computer technology in an independent and productive manner.
  • Work with the Global Engineering Center in India on technical design tasks.
  • Drive the usage of appropriate Lean Product Development tools to support cost-effective technical solutions with a focus on platform design, reuse, and knowledge management.
  • Adhere to all Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) as well as International Trade Compliance (ITC) regulations and policies.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership on complex projects
  • Experience managing compliance demonstration to customer or regulatory requirements
  • Experience preparing and delivering design or project review presentations.
  • Experience writing test procedures, coordinating testing, and writing the test reports.
  • Experience with materials properties/selection and experience with manufacturing processes.


Qualifications We Prefer:

  • 10+ years experience reviewing product specifications and determining design requirements and scope of work.
  • 10+ years experience performing estimates of effort and duration for tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and manage project schedules.
  • 10+ years experience of requirements management and convergence planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present stage gate design reviews both internally and externally to customers
  • 10+ years experience generating design concepts in conformance with requirements and ensuring that adequate trade studies and analyses are performed to arrive at optimum design configurations.
  • 10+ years experience leading/supporting complex projects and integrated cross functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective collaboration across the organization and various disciplines including Engineering, Operations, Program Office, and Business Development.
  • Demonstrated ability with conflict resolution and negotiating skills.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
