Armament Systems Plymouth, MN is currently seeking a Principal (Level 3) Environmental Engineer to be part of our Environment Health & Safety team. The home location would be the Plymouth, MN facility, which is a dynamic defense engineering and development facility that includes lab scale research and development facilities, with limited production capabilities. This role will report onsite daily.
Position Description:
The environmental engineer will leverage ISO 14001 principals to maintain compliance at the facility, monitor and influence key sustainability metrics and ensure environmental risks are controlled. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Monitor and analyze regulations issued by Hennepin County, MN Pollution Control Agency and Federal EPA to determine potential impacts to operations and establish solutions to maintain compliance.
- Manage all aspects of hazardous waste generation, accumulation, labeling, storage, tracking, characterization and profiling of new and dynamic waste streams.
- Prepare environmental emissions calculations, reporting, permitting, sampling and monitoring necessary to maintain compliance and internal company tracking is kept up to date.
- Perform onsite inspections to monitor compliance and trends, while driving innovative improvements to controls and systems over time.
- Conduct studies and determine impacts and permitting requirements needed for site changes, alterations to existing facilities, maintenance activities, equipment additions, etc.
- Perform sampling and interpretation of lab analysis reports
- Monitor sites impacts to air, water, waste and leveraging best practices and new technologies to drive reduction projects to achieve Sustainability goals and targets are met to the site.
- Collaborate across functional departments and develop process to monitor site changes to facilities, processes and purchases to ensure environmental considerations are addressed during project scoping, development & implementation.
- Build trust and develop collaborative relationships with county, state and federal regulators needed to facilitate open communication and to address compliance concerns sufficiently to limit escalation.
- Support the sites Environmental Management System developing written programs to ensure the site follows ISO 14001 practices and principles.
- Facilitate a positive safety culture in a heavily regulated and inherently hazardous industry.
- Support sites emergency planning efforts related to hazardous materials, chemicals and emissions.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering or Related Sciences & 5 years of related experience, OR a Masters degree in a STEM field & 3 years of related experience
- Regulatory understanding and experience navigating; Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Hazardous Waste/RCRA, EPCRA, TRI, Stormwater, drinking water and other emerging regulations.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications to organize and complete tasks; Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Strong Excel Skills, using spreadsheets to calculate and convert emissions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required for interfacing across departments onsite, in addition to government regulators.
- Demonstrated ability to independently prioritize, plan and execute in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment while maintaining high quality results
- Ability to work both independently and within a team, multi-task and have strong facilitation skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with explosives or other hazardous materials.
- Experience with implementing an ISO 14001 Compliant Environmental Management System
- Hazardous Waste Operations Certification
- DOT Hazardous Materials Certification
- Experience Navigating REACH or other European regulations related to product compliance.
Primary Level Salary Range: $98,900.00 - $148,300.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
