Principal Engineer-Semiconductor COE / FA

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Lead the systematic investigation of MOSFET failures (e.g., electrical overstress (EOS), electrostatic discharge (ESD), gate oxide integrity, latch-up, thermal runaway, etc.) from both internal qualification tests and customer returns.
  • Utilize Advanced FA Tools: Operate and interpret data from a wide range of failure analysis equipment, including:
    • Electrical characterization (Curve Tracer, Semiconductor Parameter Analyzer)
    • Non-destructive analysis (X-ray, C-SAM, Optical Microscopy)
    • De-processing techniques (Decapsulation, Wet/Delayering, Cross-sectioning)
    • Analytical tools (SEM, EDX, FIB, TEM, OBIRCH, EMMI, TIVA)
  • Document and Report Findings: Prepare detailed FA reports with clear conclusions, supporting data, and actionable recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Interface with R&D, product engineering, process integration, and quality team to communicate findings and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Develop FA Methodologies: Contribute to the development of new FA techniques and best practices tailored to advanced MOSFET technologies (e.g., Trench, SGT, Split Gate, Superjunction).
  • Support Reliability Testing: Assist in the analysis of reliability test failures (HTRB, H3TRB, AC/DC HTOL, etc.) and correlate FA results with reliability models.
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify recurring failure trends and work with engineering teams to improve device robustness, test coverage, and manufacturing processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on failure analysis experience in the semiconductor industry, with a strong focus on power devices, especially MOSFETs.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong understanding of MOSFET device physics, structure, and common failure mechanisms.
    • Hands-on experience with semiconductor failure analysis tools (X-ray, C-SAM, Optical Microscopy, decap, cross-section, etc.).
    • Proficiency in electrical characterization and failure isolation techniques.
    • Familiarity with reliability test methods and qualification standards for power devices (AEC-Q101, JEDEC, etc.).
