Principal Engineer, Functional Safety
Analog Devices industrial automation business unit is working to enable the digital transformation within manufacturing and process control. As we move towards the digital edge ADI have ambitious plans to support our customers in areas including functional safety and cyber security.
The team has an opening for an experienced functional safety person to enhance the functional safety capability already in the team and lead functional safety development on novel solutions at both the integrated circuit, software, and module levels across a wide range of areas including 3D TOF, PLC analog input/output cards, motor control, robots and emerging technologies. Many of these applications also need cyber security and you can’t be safe if you are not secure.
Given the wide range of industrial applications and the knowledge already in the group this opening offers excellent opportunities to grow and work with existing experts. This includes opportunities for participation on industry standards groups. Further education is encouraged and supported.
In this role you will be expected to help develop, implement, and deliver a consistent and scalable functional safety strategy. The ability to employ systems thinking and to collaborate with the lead Systems Architect and other domain experts is key for this role. The ability to work in close cooperation with cross-functional teams is important, as is presenting functional safety concepts to our customers.
While the core of the role is functional safety, our customers also need support in related areas including intrinsic safety, electrical safety, and cyber security. Existing knowledge in these areas is valuable but training opportunities will be provided if needed.
Your Qualifications:
Minimum BS/BEng in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering; MSEE or MSCE
Experience and Skills
Given the wide range of skills required it is unlikely any candidate will have them all, but the following are given as guidance
Experience in architecting and defining functionally safe systems based on IEC 61508 or ISO 26262 at the system or IC level
Experience in developing and maintaining functional safety work products (preferably in a lead role). Examples: of such work products include safety concepts, FMEDA, safety manuals, software test libraries
Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to understand and clearly articulate technical issues
Good verbal and written English communication skills to work effectively with teams spread across the planet and work with our industrial customers in Europe, US and ASIA
A knowledge of industrial cyber security and especially the IEC 62443 series of standards
The ability and interest in reading IEC and ISO standards, academic and industry papers, and books
A knowledge of integrated circuit design and application
Systems engineering experience for complex automotive & industrial applications
