A DAY IN THE LIFE

A day in the life as a Principal Engineer – Civil & Structures is centered around providing technical leadership across multiple projects while supporting and developing engineering teams. You’ll act as a subject matter expert, guiding design decisions, reviewing complex civil and structural plans, and ensuring alignment with company standards from proposal through project completion. Throughout the day, you’ll collaborate with project teams, mentor engineers, and help resolve technical challenges that arise in both design and execution. You’ll also play a key role in establishing and enforcing design standards, setting engineering metrics, and driving continuous improvement across the organization. This role blends hands-on technical expertise with leadership, requiring strong judgment, problem-solving, and a passion for developing others.

STEP INTO THE ROLE

  • Responsible for safe utility scale designs that compliment company, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Perpetuates designs compliant with local, state, international building codes and company best practices.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely in leadership, management, and technical realms.
  • Responsible for providing the most safe and economical means to satisfy the design life of the power plant. Will collaborate across multiple company departments, vendors, and outside firms to explore innovative ideas, methods, materials, equipment, software, and technologies that promote safety, lower cost, increase efficiencies and provide strategic benefits.
  • Adheres to the company’s cultural basics and the National Society of Professional Engineer’s code of conduct. Must prioritize ‘We’ over ‘Me.’
  • Develops metrics and identifies initiatives for the teams to incorporate to enhance processes and collaboration, both internally and externally to the department and company.  Sets goals and works with team members regarding goals and training priorities.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Bachelor of Science in civil, mechanical, or structural engineering from an ABET accredited college required. A Professional Engineering licensure is required (PE) upon hire, ideally with an emphasis on civil, mechanical, or structural engineering.
  • At least 10 years of engineering leadership experience in a related energy or construction industry (i.e. civil, structural, foundation, utilities, power generation) required.
  • Position is estimated to require travel up to 15% of the time, subject to fluctuations as needs dictate.

WHAT SETS YOU APART

  • Experience with system vibration analysis of large rotating equipment is highly beneficial.

$133,847.00 - $194,078.00 Individual Compensation to be determined based on the applicant's applicable experience and qualifications balanced against internal equity.
