OVERVIEW:

DICK'S Sporting Goods is seeking experienced analytics professionals to work in one of two positions in the key business areas below. Candidate applications will be considered based on skills and experience as they relate to the needs of each area. 

  • Principal Data & Insights Analyst - Inventory: primary areas of focus include: allocation, replenishment, store tier-ing, product lifecycle and intra-network logistics; specific work areas include, but are not limited to: customer choice / SKU rationalize, performance tracker (in-stock, turn), demand forecasting, store location strategy, product lifecycle (clearance, store transfers, markdowns),  and logistics testing 

  • Principal Data & Insights Analyst - Assortment: primary areas of focus include: brand research / customer share and behaviors, store concept, visual presentation and performance, pricing and promotions, assortment strategy; specific work areas include, but are not limited to athlete segmentation by brand / product, store concept profiles, assortment testing, econometric pricing models, presentation standards, product bundles and offers 

JOB PURPOSE: 

The Principal Data & Insights Analyst role sits at the intersection of merchandising, supply chain, store operations and technology, and is critical to leveraging data to drive insights and AI applications to fuel our differentiated assortment, pricing & promotion strategies, merchant planning, and supply chain optimization. They work with merchant and supply chain partners, data evangelists and technologists to ensure that we offer the best, most relevant product to our customers when and where they want it – via data-informed, analytical insights and data-fueled applications (AI). They also demonstrate a keen ability to guide strategy and act as a data-led advisor to diverse stakeholders, always thinking end to end and omni-channel, serving as a visionary in the analytics space. 

The role serves as a trusted advisor to business and technology partners within multiple domains and is recognized by partners for deep knowledge and expertise in data domains and analytical best practices. Operating autonomously in work creation, stakeholder engagement and in process development, this individual is responsible for developing strategic analyses and occasional reporting to unearth insights and findings to inform action rooted in data, servicing ad -hoc analytics requests & stakeholder questions and contributing to analytical initiatives and deliverables. The Principal Analyst is largely independent, owning workstreams fully, and delivers impactful, strategic analytics & insights that realize value for the organization. 

As mentioned above, you may work in one of the following key business areas within Analytics: 

  • Inventory 
  • Assortment 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

This role acts as the connector and strategic guide for business and analytical leaders, partnering with data leaders and business stakeholders to define measurement strategy and metric definitions, inform data model requirements, and define how we leverage AI to optimize our inventory landscape.  

Business Stakeholder & Strategy Support  

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to business stakeholders, including executive levels
  • Help guide and shape strategic business decisions based on data, acting as the translator between data and deep insights from which to drive strategy
  • Support will include proactive discovery and goal setting, reactive root cause analysis or measurement, and ad hoc support for trend and metric interpretation / definition
  • As the data expert in the inventory space, this role will partner with Data Engineering teams to design scalable data pipelines and data warehousing solutions, inform data model requirements, and prototype and strategize needed reporting elements

Analytics & Measurement 

  • Serve as a subject matter expert across select domain(s), demonstrating mastery of business processes, data models and analytical methodologies specific to the functional area(s) of focus to deliver complex deliverables with succinct storylines and action-oriented recommendations 
  • Responsible for delivering impactful, outcome-oriented analyses & insights through proactive, effective communication that influences strategy and value-oriented action, oriented to specific domains and functional areas 
  • Responsible for developing strategic analyses and occasional reporting to unearth insights and findings to inform action rooted in data, also servicing ad-hoc analytics requests & stakeholder questions 
  • Design, conduct and analyze complex, multi-variate tests, communicating test results cross-functionally and to leadership to guide investments decisions 
  • Test both business strategies and technology improvements to ensure positive business results, guiding cross-functional teams in robust test measurement approaches 
  • Pioneer new data sets and concepts and drive the creation of common metrics with goals and benchmarks for application, further partnering with technology, stakeholders and reporting teams to drive data democratization and usage of metrics across the enterprise to leverage for effective performance tracking 
  • Personally carry out advanced data analysis to discover and communicate actionable insights, demonstrating a mastery in key analytical methods and tooling  
  • Leverage, with mastery, common tools and platforms (e.g. SQL, Databricks, GCP, Excel), and/or vendor platforms to query, join, extract, and manipulate raw data from disparate sources to tell a comprehensive story with key insights and recommended actions 
  • Partner with Technology and Data Science teams to develop/manage various models (pricing and promotions econometric models; supply chain and store level allocation optimization) and apply measurement where testing environments are more obscure 

Team Leadership & Development 

  • Not only demonstrates advanced capabilities across all analytical methods but guides the analytics organization in best practices and analytical tooling
  • Responsible for coaching and upskilling junior analysts through best practice development, expertise in analytical methodologies and processes, and oversees continuing education efforts across analytics to elevate analytics in multiple [domain] areas

Industry Knowledge & Benchmarking 

  • May serve as the primary vendor relationship manager for analytical toolsets. 
  • Benchmark DICK’S against best-in-class analytics organization to identify strengths and opportunities for DICK’S, keeping up-to-date on current trends in the industry. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Coding Languages: advanced in SQL, advanced in R and/or Python 
  • Business Intelligence: deep experience with BI tools (Tableau, Qlik, PowerBI) 
  • Data Platforms: deep experience in Databricks, GCP or Azure Experience 
  • Testing Tools: advanced knowledge, and demonstrated mastery, of test design, analysis, and best practices 
  • Experience with A/B testing software preferred (APT/MarketDial, etc.). 
  • Analytical Skills: advanced experience in data model development/design, regression analysis, forecasting and simulations 
  • Communication Skills: strong written and verbal communication, including Power Point creation, storytelling, and visuals 
  • Experience: 10-15 years of experience, including 5-7 years of Merchant Analytics with experience in Inventory Optimization, Merchandising and/or Supply Chain experience 
  • Retail (orB2C) strongly preferred 
  • Advanced knowledge of merchant operations and merchant analytics 
  • Prior analytics roles strongly preferred, with robust personal experience and demonstrated mastery of leveraging data to drive insights, developing statistical / predictive models and inform strategy 
  • Demonstrated mastery of developing, deploying and/or applying: 
  • Measurement best practices for model validation and A/B testing, along with other proven analytical frameworks (such as Diff-in-Diff)  
  • Business cases and conducting opportunity sizing 
  • Robust business performance reporting and informing data and reporting requirements 
  • Econometric modeling 
  • Segmentation, clusters, and models (pricing / promotions; forecasting) 
  • Experience in critical thinking within the Merchant Operations space, yielding credibility in analytical and measurement recommendations 
  • Ability to translate customer experience and merchant needs into inputs to leverage AI to build, test and scale machine learning models 
  • Management experience not required 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Economics, Maths, Political Sci, Finance, Engineering, Liberal Arts 

  • General Experience: 10-15 years of experience

Targeted Pay Range: $95,200.00 - $158,800.00. This is part of a competitive total rewards package that could include other components such as: incentive, equity and benefits. Individual pay is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.
