What Your Impact Is

As a Principal Consultant, Transactions, Mergers and Acquisitions, you will advise private equity and corporate clients across the full transaction lifecycle, delivering ESG- and sustainability-centered insights that inform investment theses, mitigate risk, and accelerate long-term value creation. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping deal strategies, elevating investor decision-making, and strengthening ERM’s position as the global leader in sustainability advisory services.

What You’ll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • 7–10+ years of experience in M&A advisory, management consulting, private equity, corporate strategy, or related fields.

  • Strong understanding of the M&A lifecycle and investor decision-making processes.

  • Expertise in how ESG and sustainability factors influence valuation, risk, and integration planning.

  • Proven ability to independently drive workstreams and deliver high-quality outputs.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills in fast-paced, transaction-driven environments.

  • Ability to travel as needed.

Preferred

  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS, or related).

  • Direct experience advising private equity and corporate clients.

  • Background in energy, infrastructure, or other capital-intensive sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and, where appropriate, lead M&A advisory projects for private equity and corporate clients across sectors.

  • Conduct ESG and sustainability assessments, integrating qualitative and quantitative analyses to inform investment decisions.

  • Synthesize findings into concise, investor-ready deliverables, including reports and presentations.

  • Collaborate with ERM’s global technical experts to deliver multidisciplinary insights on every engagement.

  • Serve as a key contact for day-to-day client communication and project execution.

  • Manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets to ensure efficient, high-quality delivery.

  • Apply ERM methodologies, quality standards, and best practices across all transactional work.

  • Support proposal development, budgeting, and marketing activities for new business opportunities.

  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing, practice development, and enhancement of advisory tools.

  • Stay current on emerging ESG, sustainability, and M&A trends and represent ERM at industry events.

For the Principal Consultant, Transactions, Mergers and Acquisitions position, the anticipated annual base pay is $130,000–$169,426 (USD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are not bonus eligible).
