Location: This role requires associates to be in-office 1 - 2 days per week, fostering collaboration and connectivity, while providing flexibility to support productivity and work-life balance. This approach combines structured office engagement with the autonomy of virtual work, promoting a dynamic and adaptable workplace. Alternate locations may be considered if candidates reside within a commuting distance from an office.

The Principal Cloud Engineer - Data Platforms serves as a strategic technical leader responsible for defining, advancing and governing enterprise data platforms, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.
The Principal Cloud Engineer - Data Platforms works with the business and technology stakeholder's on the development and delivery of end to end application technology products and services for enterprise wide technology application platforms that are aligned to the organizations strategic objectives and initiatives.
How you will make an Impact:
Define enterprise data platform architecture across multiple cloud providers.
Author and evangelize whitepapers/position papers defining principals and strategies for data and data platforms at Elevance Health.
Design scalable cloud solutions to host data platforms (lakehouse, warehouse, streaming).
Partner with Data Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, and Information Security to establish data architecture standards, models, and patterns.
Design automation platforms supporting cloud data architectures.
Drive adoption of modern data architectures (data mesh, data fabric)
Define data governance, quality, lineage, and compliance frameworks
Partner with engineering teams to deliver data pipelines and platforms
Evaluate and implement data technologies (Databricks, Snowflake, etc.)
Works with stakeholders to establish the overall applications architecture vision and ensures specific components are appropriately designed and leveraged in a multi-product environment.
Recommends new technology solutions and products are delivered to stakeholders and align with enterprise strategic objectives.
Collaborate with stakeholders and technology to define business requirements.
Oversee the development and delivery of technical and/or functional specifications.
Oversee the technical design reviews and testing to architectural technologies for application solutions and products meet business requirements.
Leading and define the overall application system technology and architecture, development.
Provides continuous consulting services and direction on projects.
Champions and responsible for architectural standards, guidelines, principles, frameworks, and reference models.
Collaborate with all stakeholders to define architectures for new strategic initiatives as well.
Minimum Requirements:
Requires an BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study a minimum of 11 years experience; multi dimensional platform experience, expert level experience with business and technical applications; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
Preferred Skills, Experiences and Competencies:
Hands on experience with AI tooling; IDE and Services
Expertise in distributed data systems and platforms
Experience with cloud data platforms
Strong understanding of data modeling and warehousing
Experience in regulated environments (HIPAA, HITRUST)
Experience working with a variety of executives and their teams in a matrixed environment to deliver value and drive change. Cross-functional experience (e.g., strategy, change management, business process management)
Experience with healthcare data domains
Experience with big data technologies (Spark, Databricks)
Experience with streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis)
Experience with modern architectures (lakehouse, data mesh)
