Position Overview:

As a Principal Cloud Architect, you will own the end-to-end technical strategy for Insulet’s cloud portfolio, spanning infrastructure, application, data, and security domains to ensure every solution is scalable, resilient, cost-optimized, and aligned with corporate objectives. Acting as the technical product owner for the platform, operations, and reliability teams, you will manage their backlog and roadmap while driving alignment between Platform Operations and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices to deliver highly available, performant, and secure cloud services. You will ensure cloud solutions support rapid deployment of digital products, implement FinOps practices for cost optimization, and champion automation, observability, and proactive incident management across environments. A critical part of your role will be enforcing enterprise-grade security and compliance standards, embedding zero-trust principles, and ensuring robust identity, access, and data protection strategies. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with Network Operations to optimize connectivity, latency, and throughput for hybrid architectures, ensuring secure and reliable integration between cloud and on-premises systems, applications, and SaaS resources.
Responsibilities:
Provides architectural leadership in shaping the platform’s cloud strategy, ensuring scalability, security, and cost optimization across all applications and business units.
Translates business objectives into actionable cloud architecture blueprints, technical roadmaps and backlogs.
Participates in new systems architectural reviews from a governance perspective and provides analysis feedback in post deployment critiques.
Ensures our systems are built on HA (High Availability) Architecture that provides native Backup/DR and Active/Active support within our defined RTO/RPO requirements.
Guides cross-functional teams in establishing the architectural principles, security baselines, and reference implementations that enable consistent, reliable, and scalable cloud solutions.
Ensures that definitions align with enterprise transformation goals, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
Coaches engineering, SRE, CloudOps, PlatformOps, DevOps, and product teams in adopting cloud-native practices, including automated testing, observability, and continuous delivery.
Establishes standards for deployment readiness, infrastructure provisioning, and operational handoff so that cloud solutions are production-ready, resilient, and aligned with business outcomes.
Promotes transparency across technical and business teams by articulating architectural decisions, trade-offs, and long-term impacts.
Defines, maintains, and governs Program-wide standards for Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration, and observability practices, with embedded security controls
Continuously evaluates emerging technologies and industry trends to drive a forward-looking strategy that accelerates digital transformation and business agility.
Education and Experience:
10 + years designing and delivering large-scale cloud solutions, with 5 + years in a principal/lead architecture role
Extensive knowledge of and integration / engineering experience leveraging major cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including integration design with prevailing SaaS platforms and practices
Collaborative mindset with ability to work effectively across product, operations, security, and technology teams
Understanding of network architecture, security frameworks, and how cloud solutions integrate with existing enterprise infrastructure
Deep knowledge of utilizing GenAI/AgenticAI tooling to automate and expedite engineering delivery
Experience translating complex technical concepts into business value propositions for marketing, operations, and executive leadership.
Exceptional communication, facilitation, and leadership skills; able to simplify complexity for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Skills/Competencies:

Experience in the healthcare, pharma or medical device industry a plus.

Compensation & Benefits: For U.S.-based positions only, the annual base salary range for this role is $138,700.00 - $208,000.00 This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation.
