Principal Business Analyst, Commercial Excellence

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The Principal Business Analyst develops, interprets and implements complex financial and/or accounting concepts for financial planning, conducts month/year end closings, and prepares/leads annual budget cycle for the designed group within FMCNA. The Principal Business Analyst performs economic research and studies in areas of business analysis within the assigned function(s).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Utilize knowledge of accounting and/or financial principles by reviewing, reconciling and consolidating submitted financial data of complex scope on a routine basis; collaborating with cross-divisional teams on the accurate and timely resolution of outstanding issues.

· Architect, design, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance data pipelines (batch and streaming).

· Build and optimize data models, schemas, and architectures to support analytics, dashboards, and operational applications.

· Develop and maintain ETL/ELT workflows using tools such as Databricks, Spark, Airflow, dbt, or equivalent.

· Implement data governance, metadata management, lineage tracking, and data quality frameworks.

Analytics Enablement

· Partner with Commercial, Finance, and Product teams to translate business needs into robust data solutions.

· Build and maintain curated data assets to support reporting, forecasting, and advanced analytics.

· Ensure data accessibility and performance for internal analysts and business users.

· Enhance self-service analytics by improving data models, documentation, and platform usability.

Data Strategy & Governance

· Contribute to the long-term data platform strategy, roadmap, and architectural vision.

· Establish and enforce standards for data quality, reliability, and security.

· Collaborate with IT and Security to ensure compliance with enterprise guidelines and data policies.

Leadership & Collaboration

· Serve as the technical subject matter expert for data engineering, pipelines, and architecture.

· Mentor junior data engineers and analysts; elevate team capabilities through coaching and best-practice frameworks.

· Lead cross-functional data initiatives from concept through deployment.

· Communicate complex technical topics clearly to business and executive audiences.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· 3+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or a related technical data field.

· Expert-level proficiency in SQL, Python, and building scalable ETL/ELT workflows.

· Strong experience with data platforms such as Azure Data Lake/Synapse, Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, or similar.

· Proven track record building and supporting enterprise-grade data pipelines and models.

· Strong understanding of data modeling concepts (Kimball, Data Vault, semantic layers).

· Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience supporting Commercial, Sales, Marketing, or Finance data domains.

· Knowledge of master data management, data governance, and metadata cataloging.

· Exposure to machine learning pipelines or operationalizing ML models.

· Prior experience in a lead, senior, or architectural role.

· Experience implementing data quality frameworks and monitoring tools.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA desirable

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• 5+ years’ related experience; or a Master’s degree with 5 years’ experience

• Excellent computer skill with strong demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and email applications. Macro development preferred

• Working knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) and financial systems (e.g., SAP, Anaplan, etc.). Working knowledge of BEx query designer highly preferred

• Proven track record within the organization for adding value and shows strong potential for leadership positions. Internal candidates preferred.

• Detail oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.

• Experience in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities, tasks and client conditions.

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain relationships through diplomacy and tact.

• Able to work independently with minimal supervision and alternately within a team environment.

• Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels of management
