About the role

Within our Data & AI function, the Business Intelligence team sits at the intersection of business stakeholders, analytics delivery and data engineering. We enable data-driven decision making across the organisation by delivering high-quality insights, reporting and self-service analytics.

We’re looking for a Principal Business Intelligence Developer — a senior technical specialist with deep expertise in BI design, data modelling and visualisation. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives on solving complex problems, shaping scalable BI ecosystems and delivering exceptional end-user experiences.

While this role does not have direct people management responsibility, it plays a critical leadership role through influence, technical authority and mentorship, setting best practice across our BI capability.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the rollout and adoption of self-service analytics using Power BI, balancing usability with governance

  • Design, develop and optimise complex dashboards, datasets and enterprise data models

  • Partner with senior stakeholders to deliver measurable, customer-focused analytics outcomes

  • Act as a subject matter expert for BI architecture, reporting models and visualisation standards

  • Extend and enhance the Enterprise Dimensional Model using tabular and multi-dimensional modelling

  • Provide modelling and SQL expertise through code reviews, pairing and informal mentoring

  • Ensure high standards for data quality, security, performance and maintainability

  • Work across structured, semi-structured and unstructured data sources

  • Create and maintain architecture, system and design documentation

  • Research and introduce emerging BI and analytics tools, techniques and best practices

  • Identify and remove impediments to efficiency across the broader data ecosystem

What you’ll bring

  • 8+ years’ experience as a Business Intelligence Developer working with large, complex data sets

  • 6+ years’ hands-on experience building reports and dashboards in Power BI

  • Deep expertise in SQL, dimensional modelling and data model design

  • Strong experience with modern data platforms and cloud ecosystems (Azure and Snowflake preferred)

  • Experience delivering BI solutions using tools such as Power BI and/or MicroStrategy

  • Solid understanding of data governance, data lakes and analytics architecture

  • Proven ability to translate business needs into scalable, high-quality analytics solutions

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels

  • Comfort working in agile, fast-paced environments

  • A proactive mindset, high attention to detail and a passion for continuous improvement

Why join the Data and AI team at Bunnings

  • Work on enterprise-scale data and analytics platforms that support critical business decisions

  • Influence the direction of BI standards, architecture and best practices

  • Be part of a collaborative, values-driven culture that prioritises trust, respect and teamwork

  • Opportunity to work with modern cloud and analytics technologies

  • Make a tangible impact by enabling better decisions across the organisation

You’ll be part of a workplace where you’ll feel like you belong.
