The Opportunity:

Washington State University is now accepting applications for a Principal Assistant for the Office of the Provost, in Spokane, WA. As a Principal Assistant you will serve as a key liaison among internal and external stakeholders and play a critical role in supporting the strategic goals and daily operations of the Provost's Office for the Health Sciences campus. In this role you will provide high-level, complex, and confidential administrative and project management support to the Provost’s Office and its leadership team.

The Principal Assistant is responsible for coordinating executive-level administrative functions, including:

  • managing calendars and communications,

  • travel and personnel data management,

  • preparing correspondence and reports,

  • project planning and coordination,

  • data collection and analysis,

  • event and logistics support,

  • preparing budgets, personnel, and contract-related paperwork

  • supporting university-wide initiatives and special projects

This position requires strong independent judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage sensitive information while working in a fast-paced environment in collaboration with academic and administrative partners across the institution.

The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to take initiative with minimal direction.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

Monthly Salary: $4,508.70 - $5,635.87 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business administration or other relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible management work experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including professional experience in preparing correspondence, reports, and presentations.

  • Experience working in an environment requiring confidentiality.

  • The ability to function well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

  • A history of meeting deadlines and providing high-quality work.

  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills.

  • Strong customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with Workday, PeopleAdmin, or another complex enterprise system with an HR and/or Finance module.

  • Experience providing executive-level support to an individual or group of individuals.

  • Fiscal administrative experience relating to budgeting, funding, grants, contracts, purchasing, and/or travel.

  • Project management experience.

  • Familiarity with WSU policies and procedures.
