We are seeking a Principal Database Architect to lead the design and evolution of enterprise-scale Oracle database pipeline, driving strategy across Oracle platforms, change data capture (CDC), messaging and MQ frameworks, and end-to-end data pipeline architecture in alignment with business domain context.

Your role:

This Senior level Oracle/CDC/MQ Subject Matter Expert:

  • Take end-to-end ownership of the Oracle database pipeline, including mainframe-sourced data replication.

  • Act as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders, analyzing complex business data to ensure database architectures accurately reflect business processes.

  • Map complex mainframe structures to Oracle database tables, utilizing deep field-level and copybook-level understanding to preserve business logic.

  • Perform hands-on engineering using PL/SQL, including Oracle triggers, procedures, packages, and conduct advanced performance tuning.

  • Partner directly with business units to map business rules and data lifecycles (such as customer, vendor, and order data) to technical Oracle solutions, ensuring strict data integrity and reconciliation accuracy.

  • Design, support, and troubleshoot MQ architecture across mainframe, Linux, and cloud environments.

  • Manage Splitter operations, queue-level troubleshooting, backlog analysis, and message integrity checks.

  • Monitor and administer daily CDC/MQ latency, including producing MD Orders latency reports for architecture and business teams.

  • Provide day-to-day operational support, rapid incident response, and cross-domain debugging across Mainframe replication, CDC processing, MQ message flow, JDB/Oracle ingestion, and Oracle reconciliation.

  • Serve as a critical technical lead for multi-year modernization programs, including Mainframe Re-platforming, GCP data migration, and CDC modernization.

  • Identify opportunities and develop solutions to automate, stabilize, and improve the efficiency of ongoing Oracle consumer operations.

Oracle, CDC, and MQ Process and Methodology Understanding:

  • Understanding of complex data integration methodologies and experience collaborating with cross-functional development and architecture teams.

  • Comply with established levels of service and support on Oracle databases and MQ systems to ensure minimal latency, prevent data integrity gaps, and avoid system downtime.

  • Work closely with cross-platform team members to optimize performance and troubleshoot anomalies end-to-end. Uses performance monitoring tools to identify and correct inefficient database operations.

  • Serve as a primary resource and subject matter expert in assessing CDC architecture, evaluating tooling, and supporting SAP/Oracle integrations.

  • Recommend and initiate change requests as needed to support business rule changes and enhance system functionality.

  • Submit summaries of change control, latency monitoring, and status reports regularly.

  • Duties include resolving and analyzing cross-platform data flow problems and documenting and implementing solutions or workarounds.

  • The responsibilities also include supporting the data team during system testing, minimizing defects during critical transformation cutovers.

  • Actively participate in system design for cloud migration pipelines, ensuring data reliability commitments are met.

What you bring to the role:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, science and math or related technical discipline is required. A graduate degree in technology, business or management is preferred.

  • 7–10 years of continuous relevant technical experience in Data Architecture, Database Administration, or Middleware support, with a strong focus on Oracle, CDC, and MQ ecosystems.

  • Strong business acumen with the proven ability to look beyond the technical pipeline to understand the meaning, lifecycle, and business value of the data being processed.

  • Advanced proficiency in Oracle database engineering, PL/SQL development, data reconciliation, and performance tuning.

  • Experience reconciling complex financial or operational data (e.g., regional sales and tax reporting) against business targets to ensure data accuracy across systems.

  • Extensive source-system expertise across mainframe technologies, specifically IMS, DB2 and VSAM.

  • Thorough knowledge of Change Data Capture (CDC) processing and JDB ingestion.

  • Deep, hands-on experience with message queuing (MQ) architecture and cross-team debugging across distributed and mainframe platforms.

  • Experience with cloud data migrations (preferably GCP) and modernization of legacy mainframe systems.

  • Deep knowledge of Impulse data (orders, invoices, customers, vendors, coded values) is highly preferred.

  • Experience with Java and Cobol programming is preferred.

  • Good communications skills including strong verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex cross-domain issues to various stakeholders.

  • Strong understanding of high availability concepts, message integrity, and latency reduction in large-scale data pipelines.

  • Ability to work across multiple international time zones with offshore teams and external vendors as needed.
