Adventist HealthCare seeks to hire an experienced President of Physician Enterprises who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing.

As the President of Physician Enterprises, you will have the following principal accountabilities:

Strategic - Create and implement strategies for the advancement of the physician enterprise as part of the broader integrated health system.

Board Management – Create Medical Policies for board approval; participate in the 501a corporate structure as an attendee and presenter at board meetings to represent leadership; create co-management activities with physicians for board approval; responsible for board relations and elections processes.

Quality-Responsible for ensuring that high standards and performance of quality and patient safety are executed across the entirety of the Physician Enterprise scope, inclusive of the CIN.

Operations-Responsible for ensuring that resources are aligned to drive maximally efficient operations for optimized financial outcomes while maintaining efficient, high-quality care.

Relationship Management – Lead interactions with local CMOs and hospital COS functions for the purposes of implementing care standards.

Performance Management – Participate in and lead operational excellence initiatives, including provider network development, referral tracking and compliance, patient access, and provider productivity.

Financial Performance – Responsible, in conjunction with the EVP System CMO and subordinate leaders, for growth and financial performance of the organization.


The President of Physician Enterprises will have the following nature and scope:
• Develop personal and professional credibility across the system and within the community; gain respect and build trust internally and externally.
• Coordinate the development of a strategic plan for Physicians in conjunction with stakeholders, hospital leadership, service line leadership, and employed and affiliated physicians.
• Provide form and structure to the Physicians' leadership team(s).
• Monitor the external environment/industry to ensure network capabilities are market-leading to advance health in the population.
• Work collaboratively with operational leaders to ensure implementation plans are effective.
• Become a visible and invested member of the community, serving as an advocate for improving the health status of the population.


Qualifications include:
• A degree in Medicine from an accredited medical school is preferred; additional education in medical management, public health, healthcare administration, or business is required.
• A current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland is preferred.
• Minimum of ten (10 ) years of administrative physician leadership within an integrated health system, with at least some leadership experience in a managed care organization, and is familiar with a capitation model, or a minimum of five years of experience as a physician leader driving outcomes within a similar role.
• Strategic and visionary thinker.
• Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with physicians, administrators, nurses, and other providers, including interdisciplinary care teams.
• Understands the market pressures of physician capture in this time of physician shortages.
• Experience in the design and implementation of provider reimbursement systems supportive of network health management.
• Experience in the design and implementation of clinical protocols and utilization management/ quality assurance. Experience in implementing the medical home model, EMR implementation, and optimization.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Strong interpersonal skills; skilled in conflict resolution at various levels of an organization.
• Effective consensus builder.
• Strong organizational skills, flexible and adaptable style, and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time.
• Demonstrates commitment to culture in all internal and external customer interactions; delivers on the brand promise through innovation, accountability, empowerment, collaboration, compassion, and results.

Work Schedule:

Physician leader preferred; accomplished non-physician healthcare executives with substantial, directly relevant experience will be given full consideration.

In addition to the outlined scope of the role and the required qualifications and skills, seeking a candidate with a proven track record in the following experiences:

• Multi-specialty practice leadership.

• Physician relationships.

• Driving strategy; vision of where healthcare is going.

• Active healthcare practice.

• Medical management, utilization management, utilization review, and insurance.

• Clinical integration.

• Insurance, new financial models, risk models.

• ACO experience preferred. - Board interaction.

• Interfacing with insurance/ hospitals/ physicians/ government.

• Healthcare reform.

• Seasoned organizational political skills.

• One who is current, and remains current, on healthcare trends (best practices, models of care, policy structures, benchmarking) and major regulatory topics and trends in government influence on the business of healthcare.

• Knowledge of how various health plans work, how the physician community helps drive success, and performance drivers for a health plan.

• A strong financial foundation; ability to spot anomalies and articulate the financial state of the organization.

• Understanding of consumer trends and the influence of changing technologies on the patient care experience

Pay Range:

$318,859.79 - $510,175.66

If the salary range is listed as $0 or if the position is Per Diem (with a fixed rate), salary discussions will take place during the screening process.

Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), this position is classified as:
