Join our new Ambulatory Surgery Center and provide high‑quality, patient‑centered care that supports patients through their surgical journey—from pre‑operative preparation to post‑anesthesia recovery and discharge. As a Pre/Post RN, you will be part of the Advocate Health Nursing Professional Governance community, delivering evidence‑based, compassionate care and collaborating across interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe and exceptional patient experiences. This role is ideal for a dynamic and detail‑oriented nurse who thrives in a fast‑paced ambulatory environment and values teamwork, communication, and professional growth.

Essential Functions

  • Engages in unit councils, shared governance activities, and quality initiatives to improve processes and support evidence‑based practice.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate care in both pre‑op and post‑op environments.
  • Educates and supports patients and families through the peri‑operative experience to ensure understanding, safety, and comfort.
  • Monitors patient conditions, identifies changes, adjusts care plans, and collaborates with the care team to influence outcomes.
  • Upholds and advocates for a strong culture of safety for patients, families, and staff.
  • Continuously evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes and takes action to improve quality of care.
  • Administers medications, treatments, and therapies safely and according to ASC protocols and professional standards.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills, conflict resolution, and the ability to delegate appropriately within scope and policy.
  • Pursues ongoing professional development and maintains required certifications and competencies.
  • Adheres to the ANA Code of Ethics and demonstrates ethical practice, respect for all disciplines, and a commitment to unbiased, patient‑centered care.
  • Maintains accurate, timely, and legally compliant EHR documentation.
  • Floats between ASC areas (pre‑op, PACU, Phase II recovery) or to other designated care areas as needed.
  • Provides age‑appropriate and developmentally appropriate care based on established department standards.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education

  • Graduate of a Board of Nursing–approved nursing education program.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license—multi‑state compact or single‑state license with privileges to practice where patient care is delivered.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Additional specialty certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS) may be required based on departmental needs.

Experience

  • Typically requires 1 year of clinical nursing experience.
  • Ambulatory surgery, PACU, or peri‑anesthesia experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong clinical judgment and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Effective prioritization, time management, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced ASC environment.
  • Proficiency using electronic health records and digital clinical platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Shift Details

  • Monday–Friday schedule aligned with ASC operating hours
  • No weekends
  • No holidays
