Scope of the Job

At Soho House, a Prep Cook II is responsible for setting up workstations in the kitchen and preparing ingredients for the cooking process.  Prep Cook II performs basic cooking duties, monitors stock levels, and takes on culinary tasks as they arise

A successful Prep Cook II, will be able to understand and be willing to comply with food and sanitation guidelines and regulations, be quick, follow instructions and work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepping for service as needed by Chefs and Management by following prep lists created by chefs.
  • Measuring ingredients and seasonings and preparing cooking ingredients such as soup stock to be used in the cooking process.
  • Uniformly chopping produce and preparing meats.
  • Preparing simple dishes, such as entrees or salads.
  • Ensuring all food items are properly stored and easily accessible.
  • Properly stocking work areas includes setting up all condiments in their designated places.
  • Always maintain a clean and organized prep, pass and work areas.
  • Making sure all prep stations are full and ready for service – and fully operational during service.
  • Ensuring that the bread warmer is always well-organized and adequately stocked.
  • Assist the porters in disposing of the trash. Make sure that all the garbage is properly removed.
  • Helping with expediting food orders for kitchen and servers.
  • It is important to work collaboratively as a team, providing assistance to others whenever necessary. This involves working closely with the kitchen staff.
  • Complete assigned side work before/after service, checklists to standard. Contribute to a seamless experience.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.

 

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a fast-paced, upscale and approachable environment of professionals
  • Strong understanding of professional cooking and encompasses educated knife-handling skills.
  • Strong communicator, able to take direction, team player mentality.
  • Proactive ability to build professional relationships with all leaders and kitchen team.
  • Food handler’s certificate
  • Flexible schedule and ability to work morning, night, weekend and holiday’s (as needed)

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to seize, grasp, turn, and hold objects with hands.
  • Must be able to work on your feet for at least 8-10 hours.
  • Fast-paced movements are required to go from one part of the kitchen and storage areas to others.
  • Must be able to move, pull, carry, or lift up to 50 pounds on occasion and 35 pounds regularly.
  • Occasional environmental exposures to cold, heat, and water
  • Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch, and climb as required.
