This is an entry-level position designed for those looking to start or grow a career in the laboratory field. Technicians will be assigned to a specific bench—though assignments may shift as needed—and will be responsible for receiving, tracking, and delivering samples to the appropriate testing departments. The role also includes route duties between our two closely connected central processing locations. We support samples from inpatient units, outside clients, regional hospitals, and the ER, all of which require prompt handling because patients are waiting for results.

This position is an excellent way to get your foot in the door, gain valuable foundational skills, and build the knowledge base that performing labs actively seek in new team members.


A caregiver in this position works nights + on-call, 11:00pm - 7:30pm. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Receive and accession specimens into the LIS (Lab Information System). 

  • Prepare specimens for analysis. 

  • Perform manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting, and routine maintenance), problem-solving functions, and issue resolution. 

  • Assume compliance with basic regulations (temperature monitoring). 

  • Perform QA activities (pending log audit). 

  • Retrieve, sort, track and deliver specimens and verify receipts in the lab. 

  • Perform basic clerical functions (i.e., answering phones). 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED and one year of lab experience  

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Associate's Degree, preferably in a science related field (this may substitute the one year of experience needed above) 

  • Strong organizational and time management skills 

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity to perform specimen handling techniques and to take measurements

  • May require extended periods of standing, walking and/or sitting.

  • Handles and transports bio hazardous materials.

  • Visual acuity, including the ability to distinguish colors.

  • Must have normal or corrected vision.

  • Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as defined in the exposure control plan.
