Purpose

The Practicum Development and Program Administrator supports the mission of the University of Texas School of Social Work by strengthening practicum education through partnership development, practicum placement coordination, and program innovation. This position plays a key role in cultivating and maintaining relationships with social service agencies across Austin, Travis County, and the Central Texas region to expand and enhance practicum opportunities for students. The Specialist collaborates closely with faculty, students, and community partners to ensure quality learning experiences that align with professional social work standards and curricular goals.

This position is a three-year appointment from the start date, with the expectation of renewal beyond that period contingent upon continued funding.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage practicum placements for undergraduate and graduate students in collaboration with faculty and agency partners.
  • Develop and sustain partnerships with local and regional social service agencies to identify and expand practicum opportunities.
  • Support the design, implementation, and evaluation of practicum-related programs and initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of recruitment strategies to attract new community agencies and qualified practicum instructors. Attendance at conference and community events to promote interest and recruit new agencies.
  • Provide guidance, consultation, and training to agency partners and practicum instructors on supervision, student engagement, and educational best practices.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administrators to ensure alignment between practicum education and programmatic learning objectives.
  • Maintain records, data, and documentation related to practicum placements and program activities. Complete on-boarding with agencies and students.
  • Co-chair the CPDC.
  • Represent the School of Social Work at community events, meetings, and outreach efforts to promote practicum partnerships and social work education.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to continuous improvement in practicum operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of professional social work experience.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with social service agencies in Austin, Travis County, and the Central Texas region.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring students in academic or practicum settings.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse partners and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW) from an accredited program.
  • Experience in recruitment, community engagement, or partnership development.
  • Knowledge of Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) practicum standards and field education best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in higher education, practicum education, or social service program development.

Salary Range

  • $70,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • This position is based in Austin, TX and is required to work on campus.
  • Travel to agency partner sites throughout the Central Texas region.
  • Standard office conditions with the majority of time spent in contact with students, during usual office hours.

Work Shift

  • Monday – Friday (hours set by supervisor)
  • Occasional/seasonal evening and/or weekend work may be required to support events or training sessions.
