Position Overview:


You will support powertrain development activities by operating and maintaining engine dynamometer test cells within a professional engine test laboratory. In this role, you partner closely with engineering teams to execute engine tests, configure data acquisition systems, and ensure high‑quality, reliable test data. Your work spans hands-on testing, equipment upkeep, and detailed documentation across development, calibration, and validation efforts. This position offers the opportunity to directly contribute to the development and validation of advanced powertrain systems in a highly technical, applied engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up, operate, and support engine dynamometer testing in a powertrain development environment.

  • Execute engine tests supporting calibration, performance, durability, and emissions development activities.

  • Configure, operate, and troubleshoot data acquisition systems and test control software.

  • Instrument engines and modify test hardware configurations to support test requirements.

  • Collect, review, validate, and organize test data to ensure accuracy, quality, and integrity.

  • Assemble, disassemble, inspect, and rebuild engines and powertrain components as needed.

  • Maintain, calibrate, and repair dynamometer test cell equipment to support reliable operation.

  • Document test setups, procedures, and results; prepare clear summaries and technical reports.

  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve test processes, efficiency, and data quality.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory in compliance with OSHA, 5S, and safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Technical degree in engine technology or a related field, or equivalent hands-on technical experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience working with high-performance small engines or similar powertrain systems.

  • You may be hired at the Technician I or Technician II level based on your qualifications and demonstrated capabilities.

  • Strong understanding of internal combustion engine fundamentals.

  • Demonstrated mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience assembling and disassembling engines or powertrain components.

  • Ability to configure and work with engine instrumentation, including temperature, pressure, flow, speed, and torque measurement.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.

The starting pay range for Minnesota is $24.00 to $31.00 per hour, plus eligibility for overtime.  Individual pay and positioning within the range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography.  While individual pay could fall anywhere in the range based on these factors, it is not common to start at the high end or top of the range.
