The primary purpose of this position, POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC LEADER, WL-5378-11, is to lead 3+ workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensure that subordinates complete assigned work consistent with trade and labor standards.

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability to Lead or Supervise. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials Trouble shooting PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The incumbent frequently performs heavy lifting, pulling, carrying of equipment and material weighing 25 pounds without assistance and over 25 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work requires frequent bending, stooping, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement. Sometimes must work in awkward positions or in restricted spaces where coordination of hands, legs, and body are needed to perform tasks. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works in areas of hazardous explosive, rocket engine propellant (MMH), toxic vapors and fluids, high noise, high pneumatic and hydraulic pressures, and often extreme weather conditions with below zero temperatures, sever winds averaging 50 MPH and wind chill of 40 degrees below zero. Exposure to Hantavirus, dirt, grease, oil, and various cleaning chemicals. Will often work at heights up to 90 feet in confined areas. Must comply with missile safety requirements and wear all required safety equipment for each task. All areas within the missile facilities always require Two Person Concept.
