Job Summary: THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a POWERED SUPPORT EQUIPMENT REPAIRER, Position Description Number NGD0473000 and is part of the MD AASF, National Guard.

Major Duties:

  • (1) Troubleshoots, repairs, services, performs minor modifications on, and operates powered qround support equipment such as AC and DC power generators, air compressors, blowers, heaters, portable lighting units, de-icers, and nonpowered equipment to include workstands, jacks, ramps, tow-bars, etc. Troubleshoots equipment and determines the extent of repairs the incumbents authorized to perform as well as the parts required. The authorized level of maintenance includes minor tuneups and adjustments of internal combustion and turbine engines, carburetors, clutch linkaqe, brakes, and other mchanical links which utilize common hand tools and a small variety of test equipmt. Performs required preventive maintenance and servicing of equipment includinq repairing and replacinq tires, lubrication, oil changes, replacing air, fuel and oil filters, checking fluid levels, and adjusting and replacing spark plugs, hoses, v-belts, and other familiar items. Keeps equipment clean and free from dirt, oil, qrease, and corrosion. Periodically observes the operation of equipment to detect problems and ensure efficient operation. Maintains maintenance records and equipment log books.(2) Performs, as required, various duties involvinq the operation and maintenance of an aircraft fuel dispensing system including an underqround storaqe system and one or more mobile fuel tanker vehicles. Performs and/or oversees the performance of lower graded employees in receiving, storing, dispensing and transferrinq aviation fuel from commercial tanker trucks to storage tanks to military refueling trucks to one or more types of military aircraft. Ensures that all safetypractices and procedures are strictly observed and enforced, and that equipment and facilities are kept clean and free from conditions which could result in fire or explosion or physical deterioration. Inspects the system and performs required general maintenance to include minor repair of leaks and corrosion in valves, punps, hoses, pipes, etc. Performs required flushinq of tanks, the cleaning or replacing of strainers, and the replacing of filtering equipment ensures that all required periodic tests of fuel for sediment and water are conducted.(3) May assist authorized firefighters in the performance of fire and crash/rescue duties. May assist Aircraft Mechanics in the performance of Aircraft Mechanic Helper duties.(4) Performs other duties as assiqned.c. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:Work is performed under general supervision of an Aircraft Systems Foreman. Assignments are given in the form of work orders, inspection reports, or verbal instructions. Is expected to plan work seguences, select tools and repair parts, and otherwise carry assignment through to completion, with a minimun amouut of supervision, referring only unusual and difficult problems to supervisor. Guidelines available for reference include Technical Manuals/Bulletins, manufacturer's specifications, factory engineering bulletins and staudard operating procedures. Work is subject to spot check upon completion for acceptability and adherence to instructions and established standards.

Qualifications: Military Grades: ENLISTED E3-E8 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Work involves the maintenance and repair of powered ground and similar support equipment used for aircraft ground servicing; missile, aircraft, air control, and radar installations powered support; field combat support; engineering and construction project support; and general utilities, including standby and emergency power generating systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training must demonstrate a basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic theory and the makeup and operation of the various individual systems and their interrelationships. Experience using a small variety of test and measurement devices. Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components and accessories. Experience reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics. Quality of Experience: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated based on duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed.
