Marsh McLennan’s Database Services team is growing rapidly, and we have an exciting opportunity for a creative and inquisitive Senior Database Administrator skilled in Postgres and Oracle. This hybrid role requires 3 days in-office in Canada and offers the chance to work on a global team responsible for critical enterprise database systems.

PostgreSQL Senior Database Administrator (DBA)

We will count on you to:

  • Manage, optimize, and ensure the high availability of PostgreSQL databases hosted on Linux and cloud platforms (AWS and Azure).

  • Lead complex database migration projects from Oracle to PostgreSQL, including performance tuning and high-availability configurations.

  • Implement advanced PostgreSQL features such as partitioning, indexing strategies, query tuning, and replication to optimize performance at scale.

  • Oversee configuration and management of cloud-based PostgreSQL offerings and maintain disaster recovery solutions with RTO & RPO considerations.

  • Utilize PostgreSQL extensions (e.g., PostGIS, pg_partman, pg_stat_statements) and support Oracle DB features like RMAN, Export/Import, and Triggers.

  • Contribute to automation initiatives by researching and presenting new technologies to enhance database strategy and operations.

What you need to have:

  • 5+ years of PostgreSQL database experience, including at least 3 years working in cloud environments.

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience migrating Oracle databases to PostgreSQL.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience.

  • Extensive experience as a Senior PostgreSQL/Oracle Database Engineer, with a strong focus on migrating Oracle databases to PostgreSQL.

  • Solid knowledge of relational database management systems and cloud computing architecture.

  • Skilled in database design, cloud computing, and Data Lake Architecture.

  • Advanced expertise in PostgreSQL internals and performance tuning, including query execution plans, autovacuum settings, and complex transaction management.

  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and Ansible is a plus.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for automation and continuous improvement in database technologies.

  • Experience with Mongo DB or MySQL is preferred

Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week on which their full team will be together in person.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $96,600 to $146,600.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
