Job Description:

Applicants are sought for a postdoctoral researcher or senior postdoctoral position at Louisiana State University to work in experimental condensed matter physics in the field of magnetic and magnetocaloric materials. The researcher will work in Professor Shane Stadler’s group whose focus ranges from solid state caloric materials, permanent magnetic materials, and novel material properties related to magnetostructural phase transitions. We anticipate that the position will have an initial appointment of two years.

Responsibilities: The postdoc will contribute to the development of new solid-state caloric and permanent-magnet materials including the synthesis of alloys and compounds and the measurement of physical properties including magnetization, structure, transport, and thermal properties. The ideal candidate will operate and maintain experimental instrumentation including XRD and Magnetic Properties Measurement Systems (MPMS). The postdoc is expected to regularly present their research, submit papers to peer reviewed journals, assist in writing proposals for experimental time at government facilities, engage with the larger group including assist with mentoring of students, and participate in wider department activities. The Senior Postdoctoral researcher will lead projects, assist in writing research proposals, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

Minimum qualifications: (Both) PhD in experimental condensed matter physics or related field. (Senior level) 3 years of related experience beyond PhD.

Preferred qualifications: Experience in materials synthesis and post-synthesis techniques, and operating and maintaining MPMS systems.
