Job Description:

Job Summary:

The appointee will be a member of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the interdisciplinary Center for Computation and Technology. The position is supported by the university-wide commitment to advancing coastal science and engineering, which spans multiple departments, centers, and institutes (www.lsu.edu/coast). The goal of the postdoctoral researcher is to make fundamental contributions to the next generation of eco-morphodynamic modeling software used to study biophysical feedbacks in estuaries and deltas.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Research and development of coupling ecological and hydro-morphodynamic processes in two- and three-dimensional computational models of hydrodynamic flow, waves, sediment transport and morphology, specifically the authorship of peer-reviewed journal articles and supporting research software. Research includes assessment of biophysical processes in deltaic and estuarine morphodynamic change, including restoration applications and climate change scenarios. - 50%
  • Software development and maintenance of the open source model for computational methods and simulation (https://github.com/murielbruckner/Dynamic-saltmarsh-microphytobenthos-model). - 30% 
  • Mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, specifically, supporting research group meetings, guiding student projects, and presenting occasional seminars and classroom presentations. - 15%
  • Other duties as assigned. - 5%

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Computational Science, Engineering, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Computational Science, Engineering, or related field.

The incumbent to have prior experience and strong motivation to continue work in hydrodynamic modeling, sediment transport, morphodynamics, and/or marine ecology are desirable. Prior experience in using Delft3D, python and/or MATLAB is preferable but not required.
