Job Summary:
The Department of Oceanography in the College of the Coast and Environment is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in hydrology and hydrodynamics. The position is supported by the university-wide commitment to advancing coastal science and engineering, which spans multiple departments, centers, and institutes (www.lsu.edu/coast).
Job Responsibilities:
35% Provide basic research and development/application of computational models focusing on 1) basin-scale hydrology with an emphasis approaches driven or assisted by artificial intelligence and machine learning; and 2) two- and -three dimensional modeling of hydrodynamics and material transport in coastal and/or estuarine environments.
30% Lead and support field observational studies including, but not limited to: site visits, hydrographic surveys (e.g., water velocity and discharge), hydrodynamic/oceanographic measurements (e.g., waves, water level, salinity), and meteorological measurements (e.g., wind speed and direction). This responsibility will include data processing and analysis.
30% Must author peer-reviewed journal articles and support research software.
5% Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Oceanography & Coastal Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Civil & Environmental Engineering, or related field.
Specific Experience: Experience with hydrological and hydrodynamic modeling is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D.
Specific Experience: Prior experience and strong motivation to continue work in several of the following areas is highly desirable: numerical modeling of coastal and estuarine hydrodynamics, particle transport and transport timescales, AI/ML techniques in hydrological and hydrodynamic modeling, field observations of coastal hydrodynamics.
