The Postdoctoral Researcher’s work is mission critical to conduct timely research related to food security through reducing food waste, especially among limited resourced consumers. Data collected from this pilot study will be used to obtain external funding. This position is responsible for completing the objectives of an upcoming research project in the FSRC to better understand the drivers of food waste among low-income rural consumers, as well as identify messages and interventions to help reduce food waste among this population. The post-doctoral researcher will work closely with the Director as well as coordinate work with the Program Specialist and others in the FSRC. This role will be responsible for identifying messages that can be used by dietitians, health educators, and extension agents to reduce food waste and therefore increase food security.
This position is funded by restricted funds or a grant. Continued employment is contingent upon the renewal of restricted or grant funds.
The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.
Responsibilities:
Develops appropriate research tools to carry out mixed methods research regarding food waste in rural communities.
Writes research proposals to obtain external funding.
Oversees graduate and undergraduate students research on this project.
Write up and disseminate findings of research through peer-reviewed presentations and publications.
Participates in all college-wide events.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in Food, Nutrition or related field.
No prior experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Qualitative research skill.
Excellent writing skills.
Ability to communicate well.
Knowledge of mixed-methods research techniques.
Preferred Qualifications:
1-2 years’ experience conducting mixed-methods research around food and nutrition.
Demonstrated ability to conduct focus groups and perform thematic analysis.
Experience in survey development and validation.
Quantitative analysis skills.
