About the Role
We are seeking a curious and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to play a key role in an ambitious industry project, within our established research program in applied AI. You will work on shaping, developing, and evaluating a cutting-edge AI platform that enhances clinical decision-making. The research will be conducted as part of a long-term partnership with a major global industry collaborator that will be actively involved in the research, offering you the opportunity to conduct research with direct real-world impact.
You will join a cross-disciplinary group of highly experienced and internationally recognised researchers at the Centre for Health Informatics (CH), part of the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI), and collaborate with the industry collaborator and other leading research groups.
About You
You will have expertise in core AI principles and modern ML methods, and apply these to some of the most challenging real-world problems surrounding practical application of personalised AI technologies. We are looking for academic rigour and top-quality outputs, with strong analytical skills, proven problem-solving ability, and confidence to engage with internal and external stakeholders. You will have a passion for applied AI research and experience in translating modern AI into real-world applications delivering transformative results. You will be an excellent communicator, an enthusiastic, collaborative researcher, and someone who thrives working in a fast-paced, cross-disciplinary environment.

Selection Criteria:
Essential
PHD in Computer Science, Informatics, Data Science, Statistics, or a closely related area.
Substantial research experience in applied Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning, with demonstrable analytical skills.
Excellent research record evidenced by first-author publications in strong international journals and conferences.
Proven experience in analysis of large-scale datasets using ML toolkits/libraries or in development of practical AI applications.
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including ability to conduct research independently and work in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary team.
Desirable
Expertise in user modelling, recommender systems, or other personalised technologies.
Publications in top-tier conferences, such as IJCAI, KDD, WSDM, AAAI, WWW, or RecSys.
Experience in preparing research proposals or securing research/industry funding.
Experience in supervising Honours and higher-degree research (Masters/PhD) students.
