WUSTL

Postdoctoral Research Associate - Endocrinology

Washington University Medical Campus Full time

Position Summary

This position is with the Division of Endocrinology Metabolism and Lipid Research at WashU.

The laboratory of Dr. Carlos Bernal-Mizrachi, Philip E. and Carolyn E. Cryer Professor of Medicine and Chief of Medicine at the St. Louis VA Medical Center, invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow. The laboratory is engaged in NIH-funded basic and translational research focused on the mechanisms by which prenatal vitamin D deficiency and hyperglycemia programs cardiovascular and metabolic disease across the lifespan.

The laboratory has decades of experience in basic and translational research evaluating the mechanisms by which vitamin D and acute hyperglycemia modulates innate immune cells and the inflammatory milieu that contributes to the development of insulin resistance, hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Ongoing work explores the following interconnected areas:

* Epigenetic programming of fetal liver HSCs by in utero vitamin D deficiency and the transplantability of hypertension and insulin resistance.
* Mechanistic dissection of the vitamin induced immune program in vascular and metabolic diseases.
* The effect of acute hyperglycemia and immune cell metabolism and function.
* Human translational validation using the VDAART randomized clinical trial cohort (prenatal vitamin D supplementation, childhood cardiometabolic outcomes, methylation arrays).
* Developmental programming of insulin resistance, adiposity, and metabolic disease.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated scientist to work at the interface of epigenetics, immunity, vascular physiology, and human translational research, within a collaborative and highly productive academic environment.
