Position Information
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will work on a pre-clinical nutrition-oriented project. The position will be on a collaborative project and entail analysis of gene x diet x microbiome interactions using mouse models of various diseases.
Responsibilities:
80% research:
Extensive use of mouse models of human disease and working with heterogeneous mice from different genetic backgrounds.
Phenotyping mice for a variety of human health related disorders.
Molecular techniques, like protein (westerns, phosphorylation) nucleic acids (DNA, RNA, methylation).
Computational analysis.
10% training:
Training and managing undergraduate students.
10% writing:
Preparation of slides and publications from research results.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Education
Appropriate PhD in genetics or a related field.
Preferred Experience
Experience working with wild derived mice. This includes colony management, mouse handling, tissue collection (and appropriate storage), and histology experience.
Experience with study design using a mouse model.
Experience mouse phenotyping (Phenomaster, EchoMRI, etc.)
Experience with molecular techniques (isolation and quantification of nucleic acids and proteins).
Experience with RStudio, command line, and data analysis.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
Excellent leadership and teaching skills.
Strong analytical skills.
Ability to assist, mentor, and/or supervise undergraduate and graduate students working on related research projects.
