Position Summary

Blackbird Health is launching a Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in Pediatric Mental Health and is seeking fellows to join our inaugural cohort beginning August 2026. This is a one-year, full-time fellowship based in Virginia, designed to provide advanced supervised clinical training for post-internship psychologists who are passionate about working with children, adolescents, and families. Fellows may have the opportunity to extend or transition into a permanent role upon completion of the program.

This is a Virginia-based, on-site role. All 28 patient-facing hours per week are conducted in-person at our clinic locations.

Fellowship Structure

  • Duration: 1 year with the possibility of extension
  • Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week
  • Total supervised hours: 2,000
  • Patient-facing hours: 28 hours/week, emphasizing afternoons, evenings, and weekends
  • Individual supervision: 1 hour/week with a licensed psychologist
  • Group supervision & seminars: Participation in department team meetings, all-staff meetings, and clinical seminars

Compensation & Benefits

  • Total Compensation: $60,000 annually

What Makes You, You

  • Post-internship doctoral graduate in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology (PhD or PsyD)
  • Prior experience with pediatric populations is preferred but not required
  • Passionate about evidence-based care for children, adolescents, young adults, and their families
  • Skilled in facilitating in-person clinical sessions with strong documentation and communication abilities
  • Excited to make an impact and driven by patient outcomes
  • Collaborative team player who values clinical consultation, feedback, and professional growth
  • Dedicated to high-touch, comprehensive care — true partnership with families and caregivers, not just clinical sessions

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Provide individual evidence-based therapy to children, adolescents, and young adults (ages 2–26), building strong therapeutic relationships through consistent, high-quality care
  • Develop and adjust individualized treatment plans based on ongoing assessment of patient progress
  • Invest in patient relationships by establishing positive, trusting rapport with patients and families
  • Participate in weekly individual and group supervision to enhance clinical skills and receive feedback
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary specialty providers across Blackbird's care teams
  • Maintain thorough, timely clinical documentation and patient records
  • Involve and advise family members or outside specialists when clinically appropriate

The Basics You'll Need

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology
  • Availability for full-time, on-site work at one of our Virginia clinic locations: Vienna, Centreville, Burke, or Sterling
  • Flexibility to work during Blackbird's core after-school hours: afternoons on weekdays and/or weekends
  • Strong technical proficiency with EMR systems, virtual platforms, and Google Suite
