A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Genentech.
A postdoctoral fellow position is available for a highly motivated and independent scientist to join the laboratory of Baris Bingol in the Department of Neuroscience at Genentech. The Bingol lab investigates the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration, with a particular focus on neuronal and glial proteostasis. This position will center on elucidating the molecular mechanisms of lysosomal and mitochondrial quality control in the context of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to target discovery efforts and to perform mechanistic studies to understand how human genetic variants disrupt organelle and protein quality control pathways. Candidates with a strong track record in mechanistic molecular and cellular neurobiology research are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will leverage cutting-edge technologies—including proteomics, lipidomics, next-generation sequencing, CRISPR, iPSC-derived and primary culture models, in vivo systems, and AI/ML-supported computational biology—to uncover fundamental disease mechanisms.
The Opportunity
Collaborate productively with researchers across departments, present your work to project teams, and publish as first author on scientific publications.
Join a vibrant Neuroscience community that includes leaders in discovering the molecular causes and therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases.
Participate in the Genentech Postdoctoral Program, which provides an exceptional environment for pursuing fundamental scientific questions and driving breakthrough discoveries.
Who You Are
Ph.D. in a relevant field with a strong track record of excellence in cellular and molecular neuroscience.
Must have advanced at least one key research project focusing on mechanistic research, as evidenced by a first-author paper published or accepted in a leading peer-reviewed journal.
An independent, resilient scientist with outstanding communication skills and a strong intrinsic drive, who thrives in a collaborative team environment.
Motivated by identifying novel therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases.
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience with iPSC-based cultures of CNS cell types, primary rodent cultures, and genetic perturbation methods.
Deep understanding of molecular mechanisms relevant to neurodegeneration, particularly mitochondrial or lysosomal pathways.
Proven track record of success in wet-laboratory experimentation.
Working knowledge of large-scale data analysis (e.g., RNA-seq, proteomics).
Excellent data organization, presentation, and communication skills.
