ROLE SUMMARY
We are excited to announce a postdoctoral fellow opportunity to join Pfizer’s Drug Safety Research and Development group at the Groton, CT site.
This role will develop and apply computational chemistry and toxicology methods for assessing small molecule impurities to identify and quantify risks. They will use read-across, chemical feature selection, and ML/AI methods to develop frameworks and provide methods for evaluating structures.
Progress in this space will be driven by sound scientific arguments expressed through external publications, presentations, and software releases. This role will interact with a diverse team both internal and external with the goal of influencing both internal and external processes for impurity risk management. An ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemistry, cheminformatics, and an interest in interacting with regulatory processes.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, validate, and apply new approach methods for impurities
Implement python and/or R workflows to assess impurities and communicate actions including APIs and web apps
Collaborate with toxicologists, data scientists, and informatics teams to integrate in-silico, in-vitro, and in-vivo results into frameworks
Communicate findings through reports, presentations, publications, and software packages both internally and externally to influence key stakeholders and regulatory processes
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry/Toxicology or related field
Willingness to make a minimum 2-year commitment (fixed-term position)
No more than 2 years of post-degree experience
Successful record of scientific publications with at least one first-author manuscript published or submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal
Expertise in Python and/or R for data analysis
Domain knowledge in small molecules and interactions with biological systems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Proficiency with cheminformatics toolkits (e.g. rdkit, openeye)
Experience with read across and chemical similarity methods
Understanding of regulatory frameworks for impurities
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis
