A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Genentech.
A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available for a highly motivated and independent individual to join the laboratory of Dr. Paul Carter in the Department of Antibody Engineering at Genentech.
This Postdoctoral Fellow will be mentored by an experienced researcher with a history of developing novel and patentable antibody technologies. These technologies have been utilized in the design of at least 17 different monospecific and bispecific antibody therapeutics, which have been used to treat millions of patients worldwide. The successful candidate will engineer antibodies and other proteins through rational design and molecular evolution technologies to enhance their existing properties or endow them with new capabilities. On-going research interests in the Carter lab include: i) engineering antibodies to understand and improve their high concentration properties for subcutaneous delivery; ii) immunogenicity risk-assessment and mitigation for engineered antibodies; and iii) applications of AI/ML for antibody optimization.
The Opportunity:
● Create novel technologies of potential broad impact for future antibody therapeutics
● Collaborate with other researchers across different scientific disciplines
● Author/coauthor scientific publications
● Be part of the Genentech postdoctoral training program that provides an outstanding environment for the pursuit of fundamental scientific questions of therapeutic relevance.
Who You Are:
● Ph D in Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Protein Chemistry or a related discipline.
● One or more first author research publications in high quality journals in protein/antibody engineering or a related field.
● Experience in protein/antibody engineering from rational design, through generation of mutants, to the expression, purification and characterization of mutant proteins
● Creative individuals with a passion for science and technology and capable of independent research in a collaborative environment are particularly encouraged to apply.
● Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Additional:
Particularly welcome are curious and critical explorers of AI tools for research including publications.
