At the Institute of Human Biology in Basel, you will join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to pioneering science and technology. In this role, you will develop a novel microfluidic chip for on-chip neural organoid culture, enabling the spatially and temporally controlled supply of patterning factors. This is a unique opportunity to design and fabricate cutting-edge microfluidic systems that model different regions of the human brain.
Design and fabricate advanced microfluidic chips for organ-on-a-chip applications.
Generate human neural organoid cultures and optimize complex culture protocols.
Perform molecular phenotyping of on-chip generated model systems.
Conduct 3D modeling and simulations using AutoCAD, Blender, or COMSOL.
Lead microengineering tasks using clean room techniques such as photo/soft lithography and DRIE etching.
Utilize advanced imaging techniques, including confocal and light sheet microscopy.
Execute tissue sectioning and fluorescence in situ hybridization experiments.
Collaborate across the institute to integrate single-cell genomics data into chip development.
You are a highly motivated and collaborative professional with a passion for bioengineering and scientific communication. You thrive in team environments and bring the social skills necessary to succeed in a diverse, multidisciplinary setting.
PhD in Bioengineering or a related field with several years of relevant work experience.
Expertise in human and mouse ESC/iPSC-derived neural organoid culture.
Strong clean room experience, including mask processing and plasma etching.
Background in microfluidic device development with a focus on hydrogel-incorporated systems.
Fluency in oral and written English.
