The College of Engineering’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering is seeking a Post Doctoral Scholar to support Ma2jic project - High Melting Rate Tandem GMA Additive Manufacturing Advanced Steels. The Post Doctoral Scholar will specifically, support relationship development on the effects of Argon-Hydrogen shielding gas on properties of directed energy deposition (DED) Fe-10Ni material additive manufacturing builds; Develop unique gas metal arc DED procedures to make sound high quality builds with different Ar-H shielding gases. Support advanced characterization of Fe-10Ni test builds using methods such as SEM and TEM to characterize oxide particle size and distribution. Collaborate on research papers that are led by PhD GRA who is also working on project.
Required Education: PhD in Welding Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or a related field
Desired Education: PhD in Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering with an additive manufacturing concentration
Required Experience: Graduate research experience in Welding and DED of advanced materials and two to three peer review papers in allied areas
Desired Experience: Graduate research experience in weld, cast or forged advanced material characterization. Two to three peer research papers in allied areas.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
