A full-time Post Doctoral Scholar will be hired to dedicate 12 months each year (100% effort) to Crane Center for Early Childhood Research and Policy (CCEC) sponsored research project (Analyzing the impacts of changes to QRIS policy and subsidy rates on family access, provider quality and burden, and school outcomes among low-income children). 

The Crane Center at The Ohio State University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher with interests in Childcare Access and Quality; Data and Statistical Methods; and/or Child Development more broadly. The successful candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team of researchers to examine how state-level policy shifts shape the supply, access, and quality of childcare available using existing administrative data sources and advanced statistical methods. They will be expected to conduct empirical analyses in Python and/or R, use impeccable data management procedures that can be easily replicable, contribute to research strategy and results reporting, contribute to manuscript composition, and develop additional research questions that extend the current project. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Post Doctoral Scholar will work with Dr. Kelly Purtell at the Ohio State University, and Dr. Lauren Jones at the University of Toronto, along with others on the research team, with an anticipated start date of 01/01/2026, in a full-time appointment. Responsibilities will include contributing to the cleaning and management of large administrative data on childcare providers and families; implementing econometric modeling techniques using R and/or Python to produce estimates effects of policy changes on childcare supply, access, and quality, according to a pre-determined research strategy provided by Drs. Purtell and Jones; communicating research progress, difficulties and results clearly and in a timely manner to the research team both verbally (team meetings) and in writing (email, research log); using Git to manage and collaborate on research code and documentation; working in a self-directed and solutions-oriented manner that allows for advancement of the project goals; developing questions for future research advancement.

The Post Doctoral Scholar will be expected to co-author multiple publications in field and interdisciplinary journals. They will also be encouraged to participate in professional conferences and to seek other professional development opportunities, including external funding support.


Required Experience: 
Experience in statistical research, including advanced methodological skills. Candidates must have expertise in managing large datasets, using R and/or Python for analyses, and implementing advanced econometric methodologies. Required Education: Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) from an accredited college or university in an area of Public Policy; Economics; Data Science; or a related field before the starting date of the position. Strong written and oral communication skills.  Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a research team.
