RTRC is looking for a highly motivated individual for a post doctorate position specializing in quantum computing algorithms and applications and applied machine learning (ML)/artificial intelligence (AI) to join the Optimization team within our Intelligent and Cyber Physical Systems (ICPS) Department.
The Optimization Team develops and deploys advanced computational mathematics and optimization methods for complex product and system designs and efficient aftermarket services. We support all RTX business units, including both development of novel solutions for future products and solving the toughest problems with current products.
The appointment is for one year in duration.
What you will do:
Undertake both theoretical and applied research on NISQ and (early) fault-tolerant quantum computing algorithms, applications, and enabling technologies including quantum error mitigation and correction.
Apply and extend the state-of-the-art of quantum algorithms, and hybrid classical quantum workflows to solve practical problems in areas such as quantum chemistry, material science, optimization, complex physical simulations, and machine learning.
Implement quantum algorithms on state-of-the-art quantum simulators and hardware platforms, optimizing performance and resource usage.
Contribute to cutting edge research at the intersection of advanced ML/AI and quantum computing to develop novel solutions and demonstrations.
Transition novel concepts from early technology stages to a state that impacts and influences businesses and applications.
Lead and support externally and internally sponsored programs, writing external and internal research proposals.
Build relationships to support developing business relationships with industry, academia, and government agencies.
Disseminate research results through reports, conference proceedings, and peer-reviewed articles, and developing intellectual property.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Requires a Ph.D. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science or a related Engineering field.
Expertise in quantum algorithms and applications, and quantum information theory with a strong foundation in quantum computing.
Experience in developing and deploying ML, deep learning and other advanced AI techniques in practical applications such as material discovery, scientific computing, optimization, image processing, and natural language processing.
Software development skills, including experience with Python, C++, or other programming languages and collaborative software development tools (e.g. Git).
Proficient in programming languages, packages and tools used in quantum computing research (e.g., Qiskit, Pennylane) and in machine/deep learning (e.g. SciPy, TensorFlow).
U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.
Qualifications We Prefer:
Previous experience with practical applications in these fields.
A record of innovation as evidenced by patent applications, contribution to government funded basic research programs, and/or high-quality journal and conference publications
Ability to look at open-ended tough problems as an opportunity to innovate and develop novel solutions.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with track record of teamwork, adaptability, innovation and initiative.
Clear and effective communication with all levels of management, business development, researchers, and customers.

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
