Job Description

 The Role-

As the Portfolio Planning Director – Korea and Asia, you will be responsible for all Product Planning, Business Planning, and Consumer Research activities for General Motors operations in Korea, Asia Pacific, and Central Asia. In this role you will drive optimal vehicle portfolio plans aligned with business objectives in collaboration with vehicle program teams and cross-functional stakeholders while evaluating brand strategies, customer needs, product cadence, regulations and financial objectives.


What You’ll Do -

  • Lead execution of studies and framing of vehicle portfolio recommendations, working with cross functional stakeholders (Marketing, Finance, Engineering, Design, Manufacturing, etc)

  • Collaboration with other Planning areas (Global Planning Integration, Forecasting, Market Research, Competitor Intelligence, Propulsion, Features & Technology, Advanced Concepts) and regions

  • Lead and facilitate executive level reviews

  • Identify vehicle portfolio gaps/opportunities and track horizon plan development for portfolio needs / definition

  • Provide segment-focused portfolio and competitive comparative assessments to inform product decisions and portfolio direction

  • Participate in research clinic planning, clinics and results development ensuring understanding of customer perceptions

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) -

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in product planning, product marketing, engineering, or product development at a major automotive OEM

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Science or equivalent

  • Excellent writing, speaking, and active listening skills in Korean, with strong business communication ability in English

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) -

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent preferred

  • Broad understanding of the global automotive market – manufacturers, brands, customers, and dealers

  • Strong understanding of vehicle product development processes, deliverables, and business case KPIs and the relationship of market/country inputs on each

  • Knowledgeable in program management principles and the various challenges experienced by program teams during critical phases of vehicle development

  • Strong understanding of automotive products including dynamic competitiveness, vehicle features & benefits, and propulsion benchmarking

  • Ability to lead and motivate a high-performance team across a diverse set of sub-functions (Product Planning, Business Planning, Program Management, Customer Research, and New Business Development) and across the wider GM organization

  • Good technical understanding of vehicle systems and how they affect product performance

  • Strong global business acumen and experience including knowledge of multiple automotive markets

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix structure and solve problems in a very ambiguous environment

  • Ability to set high impact objectives and hold people accountable
