Position: Technology Transformation Portfolio Manager 

Reporting to:  CTO – Transformation  

Location:  London (open to York or Colchester) 

 

 

The organisation is currently undergoing a significant transformation as a core pillar of the Hiscox 2030 strategy, designed to make the organisation scalable, efficient, and increasingly customer-centric by modernising operations and embedding a “One Hiscox” mindset. It underpins the broader growth ambitions and is delivered through multiple strategic initiatives. 

 
The Technology Transformation enables 70% of these initiatives and contributes over half of the programme’s projected benefits. Led by the Technology Transformation Office, it enables digital trading, augmented underwriting, unified data ecosystems, and automation—unlocking speed, intelligence, and cost savings while reshaping how Hiscox works and grows. 

Role Purpose 

The Tech Transformation Portfolio Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing the end-to-end delivery of our technology transformation agenda. Working closely with the CTO - Transformation and other senior stakeholders, the postholder will ensure the successful planning, scheduling, and delivery of a dynamic portfolio of change initiatives, managing interdependencies and proactively mitigating risks to maximise business value and outcomes. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Own and drive the delivery roadmap for technology transformation, ensuring alignment across delivery domains and business units. 

  • Manage the portfolio of programmes and projects, monitoring progress, resolving delivery risks, and ensuring that key milestones are achieved on time and within budget. 

  • Oversee the scheduling of projects, identify and manage interdependencies, and optimise resource allocation to support efficient delivery across teams. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business, technical and external partners, to ensure effective communication and stakeholder engagement throughout the transformation journey. 

  • Oversee and administer the $200m+ portfolio budget, including the reporting of actuals and production of accurate forecasts.  

  • Develop and maintain robust governance, reporting, and assurance processes to provide clear visibility of portfolio health, risks and opportunities to senior leadership. 

  • Identify and manage portfolio level delivery risks and risk themes, ensuring risks are mitigated where possible, and communicated and accepted where appropriate. 

  • Build and manage the PMO team ensuring that the team is equipped to manage the full breadth and depth of the transformation portfolio and activity is well administrated and governed.  

  • Manage the overarching benefits profile for technology transformation ensuring benefits are realised as expected.  

  • Prepare, and on occasion present, papers and other materials for the Group Executive Committee.  

  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and excellence in delivery, embedding best practices and lessons learned into future initiatives. 

 

Skills & Experience 

  • Proven experience in portfolio or programme management within technology transformation, ideally in complex, fast-paced environments. 

  • Insurance or Financial Services experience is a strong preference.

  • Outstanding stakeholder management and influencing skills, able to operate effectively at executive committee level and to represent the organisation externally. 

  • Demonstrable experience of driving innovation and delivering change in areas relating to CRM, Workflow, AI, data, digital platforms, and customer experience. 

  • Strong commercial acumen, financial management, and a relentless focus on delivery, quality, and outcomes.  

  • Expertise in managing interdependencies and delivery risk across multiple projects and programmes. 

  • Resilient, adaptable, and future-focused, with a personal commitment to inclusivity, continuous improvement, and the development of others.
