Job Summary

About the Role
AmeriLife is seeking an Portfolio Manager, Enterprise Transformation, to serve as the lead portfolio manager for critical enterprise initiatives, especially in the areas of transformation and operational scale. The Portfolio Manager is accountable for success achievement of the program's goals. This role works with the various project managers to ensure all projects within the program are aligned to strategic objectives and deliver on-time, within scope and within budget.
The ideal candidate is a veteran project manager with expertise in managing multiple projects concurrently, especially on an enterprise level. They should have a strategic mindset, strong leadership skills, the ability to manage and inspire teams towards delivering results, and exceptional organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage cross-functional teams, vendors, budgets, timelines, and executive stakeholder expectations. Create sophisticated project plans that enable predictable delivery.
  • Establish program scope, objectives and key results for both internal and external technical and business groups on a project by project level Apply the appropriate delivery methodology (Waterfall, Agile, or Hybrid) based on project needs.
  • Ensure individual project plans are comprehensive and cohesive, augmenting where needed and directing changes as applicable Maintain forward‑looking project documentation, including RAID logs and resource forecasts.
  • Develop and manage to a detailed program roadmap and plan; drive execution; and track progress
  • Oversee the management of cross-functional teams, vendors, budgets, timelines and executive stakeholder expectations across the program Ensure all changes follow established governance, change management, and release processes.
  • Apply appropriate project management methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, or hybrid) to ensure consistent and successful delivery
  • Report program status and escalate issues to leaders as needed
  • Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders in order to effectively communicate program progress, issues and risks
  • Demonstrate and nurture accountability, transparency, and delivery excellence
  • Mentor and coach project managers

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years of project management experience delivering technology, operations, or product-related initiatives.
  • Proven success leading onboarding, implementation, or operational readiness projects in Waterfall, Scaled Agile and Hybrid Methodologies.
  • Comfortable with leading without authority and proven ability to lead and motivate a team, ensuring projects stay on track and meet objectives.
  • Strong negotiation and mediation skills; ability to navigate conflicts; proven ability to manage supplier, team and stakeholder conflicts
  • Experience in Waterfall, Iterative, Scaled Agile, and Hybrid methodologies.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and completing assignments even in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify and manage cross‑workstream risks and dependencies.
  • Experience developing comprehensive project plans
  • Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, Jira, Confluence).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience managing complex projects, with at least 3 years proven experience as a program manager Experience in insurance, financial services, fintech, or other highly regulated industries
  • PMP, CAPM, CSM, or equivalent certification.
  • Agile certifications a plus (e.g., ACP, CSM, PSM, SAFe, etc.)
  • Experience managing projects involving cross-platform integrations with external vendors, SAAS applications and/or 3rd parties
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to discern and manage risks and dependencies across projects
  • Exceptional ability to convey information that is audience appropriate across all levels of the organization, including stakeholders
  • Proven ability to lead distinct projects teams to collaborate on the needs of the overarching objective
  • Ability to quickly ramp up on and rescue in-flight projects

Salary Range

  • $150,000-$180,000
  • Salary offers will vary commensurate with experience, education, skills, and training
