How This Role impacts Live Oak and its People
The Portfolio Manager, Commercial Banking (“PM”) is primarily responsible for the credit risk management, underwriting, and reporting for their team’s portfolio. The PM will manage a team of analysts, supporting the Commercial lending team with underwriting and servicing of an assigned portfolio of clients. The PM will ensure their team’s underwriting and servicing standards align with Live Oak Bank’s policies and procedures. Additionally, the PM leads a team of analysts, providing oversight while training and developing a group of talented professionals.
What You’ll Do at Live Oak
Will have a deep and comprehensive understanding of the bank’s credit policies and procedures
Responsible for hiring, onboarding, and training all new Analysts that join the team
Improves efficiency among all aspects of the business line’s underwriting and servicing function
Implements risk management strategies among all aspects of the portfolio, including tracking exposure to various concentration limits, validation of data and credit quality, and upholding the integrity of credit process
Oversees compilation of current and forecasted data from multiple sources to create portfolio dashboards, reports, and presentations for business intelligence reporting and senior management
Manages impact of regulatory matters impacting the portfolio by overseeing ongoing research related to the industries served
Responsible for planning and directing all underwriting and servicing procedures
Works with other Underwriter and Servicing Team Leads to develop long-term underwriting and servicing strategies for the company, and with Bank leadership to set specific goals and policies for underwriting and servicing operations
Works closely and directly with the Credit Administration to develop & refine underwriting and servicing processes & procedures
Collaborate with internal departments such as Credit Administration, Quality Assurance, Loan Operations, Deposit Operations and Legal, Capital Markets, and Corporate Finance to ensure current processes and procedures are clearly established, correct, and compliant
Collaborate with Live Oak’s Data & Technology team and internal team resources to streamline workflows and expedite accurate portfolio reporting
Leads and directs the work of others; provide feedback on work products to direct reports and suggest training opportunities
Help with frequent and individualized career path plans for each Analyst; plans should include goals and requirements to achieve promotions
Coordinates workload team-wide to ensure timely delivery of completed loan underwriting packages and loan reviews to the appropriate approval authority
Work with their direct and indirect team to creatively and efficiently resolve systemic issues that may arise across the Lending portfolios
Hold meetings on no less than a quarterly basis for teams to communicate the quality of the portfolio, including but not limited to financial statement collection, covenant compliance testing, collateral quality reports, and other credit metrics, as deemed necessary
Lead technology initiatives to benefit portfolio management process improvement via efficiency and soundness
Work with Capital Markets and Corporate Finance to provide reporting for investors
Work with outside counsel to ensure loan documentation is appropriately drafted to align with the expectations and policies of the bank
Ensure bank clients receive excellent customer service throughout the entire loan lifecycle
Maintain a high standard of regulatory awareness including BSA, AML, CIP, and OFAC
Travel required
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience of 10 or more years
5+ years of relevant banking experience
Demonstrated ability leading a team, maintaining a positive work environment, mentoring, managing teams and coaching
Exhibit well-defined leadership characteristics
Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and negotiation skills and ability to manage conflict
Strong credit and risk management skills
Demonstrated experience in effectively writing/reviewing loan presentations that identify key risks and mitigants as well as conducting cash flow analysis, use of financial statement spreading software, and collateral evaluation
Strong customer service orientation
Working knowledge of loan agreements, loan structuring, and collateral procedures
Ability to make timely, sound recommendations to management while ensuring bank policies and procedures are met
Preferred Experience
Applicable commercial lending department experience
Upholds core values and builds team member and customer relationships
Demonstrated experience utilizing credit software to capture credit applications; above-average PC skills including MS Office Applications (Word, Excel), and the ability to quickly learn new software/systems

The base pay range for this position is $128,500.00 - $179,900.00 per year. Compensation may also include annual bonuses and long-term incentives, subject to various metrics and company policy. A candidate’s salary is determined by several factors including travel, relevant work experience or skills and expertise.Please note that we provide at least the minimum requirement of paid sick leave to our employees who reside in states that require employer-paid sick leave, including but not limited to Arizona, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.
