Job Description

The Portfolio Delivery Manager is responsible for managing data product deliveries across multiple initiatives—ensuring projects progress smoothly, meet timelines, stay within budget and scope, and adhere to governance and compliance standards. The role partners with product owners, engineering teams, business stakeholders and cross functional teams to plan & track activities, resolve issues, and deliver projects on time/budget.
This role needs to have deep understanding of technical components and platform capabilities (such as AWS, Snowflake, Databricks) to manage interdependencies efficiently across systems and teams. This technical awareness enables proactive risk management, realistic planning, and successful end-to-end delivery of complex data products.

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Delivery Management

  • Manage daily operations for data product delivery, ensuring tasks are executed on time and within scope.

  • Plan and coordinate projects with internal development teams and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Track status and reporting, maintain delivery dashboards, and provide regular updates to leadership.

  • Manage issues, risks, and dependencies across multiple projects, ensuring timely resolution and mitigation.

  • Manage project timelines, cost, and scope to ensure successful delivery within agreed parameters.

  • Manage the intake lifecycle for new project engagements; ensure proper evaluation, onboarding, and resourcing.

Agile Collaboration

  • Collaborate with one or multiple agilists who manage different scrum teams to ensure alignment and smooth delivery.

  • May act as an agilist for particular scrum team, facilitating ceremonies and supporting agile best practices.

Stakeholder Coordination & PMO Engagement

  • Serve as the central point of contact for delivery-related communication.

  • Facilitate collaboration between product managers, engineering teams, governance, and business stakeholders.

  • Work closely with the PMO to provide senior leadership status reporting and portfolio-level updates.

Budget & Financial Management

  • Manage project budgets and track financials, ensuring cost control and alignment with approved funding.

  • Provide regular financial reporting and variance analysis to leadership.

Governance & Compliance

  • Enforce delivery frameworks, governance processes, and access management standards across all data product projects.

  • Monitor adherence to data governance, security, and compliance policies; support audit needs.

Resource & Capacity Planning

  • Coordinate resource allocation across projects to optimize delivery efficiency.

  • Identify skill gaps; work with leadership to address resourcing needs.

Technology & Interdependency Management

  • Understand technical components and platform capabilities (AWS, Snowflake, Databricks) to manage interdependencies across systems and teams.

  • Collaborate with engineering leads to validate technical dependencies and timelines.

Intake & Process Improvement

  • Identify progress gaps and implement process improvements to enhance delivery efficiency and predictability.

  • Manage prioritization with senior leaders across the portfolio to align capacity with strategic outcomes.

Leadership & Strategy

  • Establish portfolio-level OKRs and a value tracking framework (e.g., adoption, efficiency, revenue enablement, risk reduction).

  • Evangelize product thinking and promote standardization of data product operating models (intake, discovery, build, release, support).

  • Create and maintain delivery playbooks (governance checkpoints, access patterns, release management, post-release adoption).

  • Influence architecture and platform roadmaps by articulating dependencies, constraints, and trade-offs from delivery data products.

  • Institute a predictable delivery cadence: portfolio stand-ups, risk reviews, and quarterly portfolio planning.

  • Drive continuous improvement via retrospectives and root-cause analyses; reduce cycle time and unplanned work.

  • Lead benefits realization tracking—quantify and report realized value (e.g., reduced time-to-data, improved data quality, business KPI lift).

  • Build a culture of accountability and transparency; use metrics to manage performance and course-correct quickly.

  • Mentor agilists, PMs, and delivery leads; develop delivery talent and succession plans.
