Job Description:
***THE POSITION OF POLICE OFFICER 2 WILL ASSIST WITH THE POLICING AND SAFETY OF 5300 ACRES, TWELVE MAJOR BUILDINGS, ON-CAMPUS FACULTY HOMES, THE “OAKS” HOUSING COMPLEX, STATE EVACUATION CENTER - WHICH CAN HOUSEOVER 3,500 PEOPLE AS WELL AS ALL LSUA OFF CAMPUS SITES.
Applicant required to work a Flex Shift. Covering various AM and PM shifts while working supervised.
Applicant must have and maintain a current class E Driver’s License. Applicant May be required to complete a Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) course
Protect lives and property through active foot patrol (brisk walking or running) and mobile patrol (including driving at accelerated speeds when necessary). Utilize defensive tactics and necessary law enforcement equipment including hand-to-hand techniques, chemical agents, baton, taser, firearm, and handcuffs. Enforce laws and University regulations; investigate crimes and accidents; retain and document critical information; maintain and process official records. Perform additional duties as directed by LSUA Command Staff or the Chief of Police.
May be required to qualify annually at the firing range.
Enforce parking, traffic, and campus regulations. Issue citations to violators and apply wheel locks to repeat offenders. Direct traffic when appropriate. Patrol parking lots to ensure proper decals, current tags, and appropriate parking. Provide courtesy assistance to staff and students, including assistance with locked vehicles, flat tires (by contacting wrecker services), and dead batteries.
Assist with collection and documentation of evidence related to thefts, harassment, assaults, and accidents. Coordinate and assist Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, and other law enforcement agencies during emergencies. Transport and detain subjects as necessary.
Provide first aid and emergency assistance to faculty, staff, students, and the public. Serve on the First Aid Team and Campus Safety Committee. Escort first responders to on-campus emergencies. Report hazards such as street obstructions, utility issues, or unsafe conditions. Provide escort services during peak registration periods and appear in court as required to testify regarding incidents and arrests.
Maintain a close working relationship with local and state law enforcement agencies. Utilize communication radios to maintain 24-hour contact with 911 Emergency Communication Centers, fire departments, ambulance services, and other emergency agencies.
Work independently during routine and emergency patrols. Demonstrate self-motivation and proactive performance. Perform other duties as assigned.
