Works under the direction of the Manager of Testing Services serving as a resource in the POCT area of the laboratory with the POCT Coordinator. The POCT Consultant is a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Technician who maintains a high level of expertise in the POCT discipline. Assists the POCT Coordinator in the assessment and ongoing use of the instruments and procedures in the POCT area, new product evaluation, and development of new procedures. Serves as a resource for the accreditation preparations in POCT.

Job Type: Part Time, days

Shift: Varied days and hours (32 hours every two weeks)

Education Requirements:

-Associates in medical lab technology or bachelors in medical lab science preferred

- BLS/CPR through the American Heart Association

PROCESSES AND PROCEDURES

  • In addition to the essential functions of the Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician, Demonstrates a good understanding of overall laboratory processes and procedures with special attention to the following components of the analytical process in POCT.
  • Procedure manual accuracy and functionality, preventive maintenance, quality control, new testing evaluation, troubleshooting, training, procedure implementation, competency evaluation, supplies and reagents.
  • May occasionally perform testing in the clinical laboratory area as necessary.

ANALYTICAL

  • Under the supervision of the POCT Coordinator, demonstrates the ability to analyze test results and determine accuracy and precision.
  • Reviews Quality Control logs and follows up with any necessary corrective action.
  • Documents review and any actions taken.
  • Is capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance and correct the problem or uses available resources to ensure that the problem is corrected.
  • Clearly documents problems discovered and any follow up action taken.

USE OF RESOURCES

  • Coaches and mentors hospital staff in the delivery of quality POCT services.
  • Services as a key resource for both internal and external customers of the laboratory.
  • Actively develops and promotes safe work practices throughout the laboratory with special attention to POCT.
  • May periodically be on call to allow continuity of POCT services as necessary.
  • Serves as a key resource to co-workers with respect to the hospital and laboratory information systems and the results that are reported.

QUALITY AND COMPLIANCE/COMPETENCY

  • Monitors compliance and continuous competency of POCT staff.
  • Monitors performance of POCT devices including Quality Control review and other regulatory requirements.
